A very approachable porter with a nice blend of chocolate and coffee notes and a subtle flavor of Northwest hops. A definite favorite around the brewery and a perfect partner to a hearty steak dinner.

I read the other reviews and I dont get it. Yes Boise is getting into the beer scene, which is great. But every beer I have had tastes like homebrew, it seems watered down, and no flavor, which is not what I am paying for. I will not drink another one unless its the last beer on the shelf.

6 oz pour from chilled bottle into sniffer. Opaque, dark, moderate tan head. Nose is roasty, chocolate, a little sweet. Really interesting mouthfeel. A dark beer with a very light body. Almost airy. Kind of a helium taste. Neat. Dry up front with a sweet finish. Chocolate and roasty.

Poured from can into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with a one finger head of cream colored foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is very roasty with a moderate showing of a coffee smell mixed within. Along with these smells comes some notes of crème and a bit of smoke. Taste – The taste begins as the nose would have let on, with a drier roasty taste. As the taste advances from the start some light grainy and yeasty tastes work their way onto the tongue. All the while a hint of caramel and some smoke and char work their way onto the tongue as well. There is a coffee flavor which starts to develop after the initial tastes, with this flavor soon fading later on more toward the end. With more smoke and a loss of the caramel, one is left with a drier and roasty taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner and more watery side with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the style it was not really all that great as it took away from the dark and smokier tastes of the brew. Overall – Other than the feel the porter was rather nice for a dry roasty porter. And with the abv. of only 5.5 % it makes it a bit more manageable for a good autumn football brew.

Aroma of chocolate malts and dark roasts. Tastes of dark chocolate. The roasts are the highlights in this beer. Which is as is sould be. Great beer.

Draft. Strangely enough, it does have a little pasture (almost manure) smell! Not strong though, and not detracting. Very dark color, with little head. Nice, clean toasty flavor. I like it.

Bottle:   Soft roasty Porter, low bitterness, smidgen of chocolate and pasture.   Very soft example, not a hoppy PNW example.   More malty, yet its pretty soft.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finishes a little light, soft chocolate notes, pale roastiness.   Wished it were a bit bigger, but the fact that its not too hoppy seems to keep it in balance.

Bottle at a bottle share. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is very roasty, and smells like a rather typical porter. Taste is actually slightly bitter with a fair amount of roasting in there - slight coffee flavor to it. Easy and light, and quite enjoyable.
