4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hayduke (2935) - Eureka, California, USA - NOV 7, 2012
I got this at Paul’s Grocery in McCall, Idaho in August 2012. Sent a bottle to my buddy Strykzone in the Midwest as a trade item We opened it together and discussed it on Facebook Chat. This poured coal black with a good size tan head and big bubbles. Light lacing. Nose of roasted malts with chocolate and coffee. Mild aroma but very pleasant. Body is medium plus with a very smooth and creamy mouthfeel that slides down the back of your tongue like butter. The flavor is roasted malts with lots of chocolate and coffee, but not overly bitter. There is a spice in the finish that Dave called mint. I am not sure but something extra was there. The most remarkable thing about this beer is how easy it was to drink.. Smooth and mild overall but still with enough complexity to keep things intriguing. Overall a suburb porter that to me exactly what I like to see in this style\

On tap at the Barley Bros Brew Fest, Meridian ID. Deep dark opaque brown. Wispy head. Classic soft roasted aroma. Modest chocolate and roaster flavor. This is what I think a porter should be. A little on the sweet side and full bodied. Very nice.

Bomber from Hayduke. We enjoyed it together via facebook chat. This was a hidden gem Ron found in Idaho. It poured black and I finally saw red in the last half inch. I poured it at about 53 degrees F and it warmed from there. A nose of chocolate, roasted notes, and softer hops. The flavor began earthy and a bit sour. Soon the West Coast hops stood up with mildly bitter citrus. Cocoa was evident but no coffee. Late in the glass mint popped up and that, along with earth, was the finish. This was definitely nice and it was just a small notch short of a top of the line porter.

Awesome 12 ounce can. Really cool design. Pours a pitch black color with a small beige head. A sweet nose of vanilla, coffee and caramel. A great flavor: sweet milky notes, chocolate, coffee, light nutty flavors, some earthy smoke. Good.

I was expecting this porter to be super sweet. It had a nice dark aroma finished off with a good 3-finger sized head. Id recommend it.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 boisebeer (57) - boise, Idaho, USA - MAR 19, 2012
Grabbed my first bottle from crooked fence earlier this week over at Boise coop. I have been really excite forth is brewery to open. Boise beer scene is coming alive more and more.
Smell is good. Not overly strong but there is some coffee coming through on a low level.
Look dark as in black. A little head that ends up ringing the tumbler glass I am drinking out of. I expected more head. Ok considerable more head wanted.
Taste is light on the coffee with earth tones showing throug on the nose. . Maybe a little coriander on the tail end
Feel. Co2 yeah. Alot of it. This effected the taste and lead to a stomach ache after five drinks. The feel is killing this beer for me.
Overall. Not in my top 10 porters but will stay on my drink list since it is a decent porter and local
