Fairly decent porter with good roasted flavor and a touch of hops. Worth the try, great if yu like porters.

Little to no aroma. Big roastiness in the body. Finishes slightly to the dry side.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
A very dark red-brown ale, with a complex citrus/coffee aroma (most noticable when poured at cellar temperature.) Flavors of chocolate and caramel malts do not over-power the palate. Clean, strong, lingering bitterness. This is a rare example of a hearty, drinkable, balanced and refined porter.

Very good for a beer but average for a porter.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hard to top the ESB but this one made a good run. Pours an oily brown with a thin beige head. Weak coffee aroma. Seemed diluted somehow and really did not have the body I was expecting. Enjoyment diminished by the end of the glass but still not too bad overall.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: AUG 7, 2003 Roast and chocolate aroma. Very dark brown with a small tan head. Roasted, chocolatey, sweet flavor. Bittersweet finish.

1.4 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Robust no repulsive yes. Color was weak out of the bottle looking very dark red, the smell was horrid, no head only a little fizz and it tasted rough and unrefined. No wonder this stuff was so cheap.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2004 2002 draught This certainly wasnt very robust. I had this on draft. Aroma was nice, blueberries mixed with plums. Not much of a head, but a burnt white one initially. Black with some purple tinges around the edges of the glass. Initial taste was very chocolatey. Had some bitter notes, but not overly bitter. Then finished off very lightly with some plum notes. When the beer began warming up, the already medium body became even more light, the taste began disappearing and there was a strong hop presence. Almost no roasted/smoked notes, and the chocolate that was initially there became too sweet when mixed with the now prevalant fruit taste. Id say it got to the point of being cloying and only a good hop taste saved this beer. To sum up my long ramblings, it dosent have the body, IBU content, nor is there much roasty or smokey taste, but my main gripe would be the body. Not a beer I will be drinking again.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Good beer! Brown black body with a healthy mocha head. Smell the roastiness and chocolate, and taste the creamy malty roasty sweetness. The only shortcoming of this beer is that its aftertaste is weak -- it seems to disappear at times.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Why can I see through the glass? Not a very impressive Porter. Little malt backbone and an absolute lack of any hops.
