LuckeyHaskins99 (180), Toledo, Ohio, USA Feb 18, 2002 My favorite Irish Ale! I don’t buy this as often as I should! The head depicted in attached photo is false tho, this stuff is fairly headless, but smooth, very bubbly, but crisp. Little aftertaste make this my faver of this variet, one that I don’t enjoy all too often. Never had enough of them to report on hangovers tho, I guess this stuff would cause some bad ones.
TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 25, 2006 Crooked River Irish Red Ale pours to a beautiful, deep amber to red color, with a thick and creamy off white head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is malty, with grainy malt aromas, jammy/fruity aromas, and slight aromas of roasted grains. The palate is firm, with lots of good stewed malt flavors, a touch of malt sweetness, and that slippery, buttery texture on the tongue. Crooked River Irish Red finishes with more malty, and slightly roasty flavors up front, then ends with estery fruit flavors, and some balancing hop bitterness that slightly lingers.
This is an excellent Irish Red Ale with lots of good stewed malt flavors, and jammy touches of estery fruit. Not quite as impressive as Irish brewed examples, but a very good domestic version. This beer is the perfect match with the Irish-American classic; a boiled dinner of corned beef, cabbage, carrots, onions, potatoes, and warm Irish bread(soda bread with caraway seeds and raisins) and butter. steview (776), Oceanside, California, USA Jan 27, 2005 slightly cheesy, gym aroma, but there is a lot of toffee and sweetness, also. anyway, this isn’t bad. it’s sweet, with some toffee and nuts, with a little bit of spice. nice ale. Wrath (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Jun 4, 2003 Reddish color. medium head with somewhat sweet malt smell. Not much flavor almost flat tasting.Only slightly better than Killians. BBB63 (3810), La Porte, Indiana, USA May 31, 2003 Copper color with fully diminishing head, no lace, medium-bodied. Roasted malt sweet aroma. Slighty sweet and fruity, a hint of nutty taste, somewhat unbalanced. Weird aftertaste, chalky. A less than average brew. Cobra (1033), In the snake pit, Maryland, USA May 16, 2003 12 oz. brown bottle.
This beer is a case of looks can be deceiving. It certainly smelled better than it tasted. Poured out a nice, bright copper color, with red highlights. Aromas off the bat are of malts. Caramel malts, and some background roastiness to it. Had a decent, but short lived head on it. Tasted average, at best. Cereal tasting to me, with a certain gritiness to it as well. A little rough around the edges, at least in my book. A pretty fair Irish red however.
