Tap at the barrel cellar - cloudy gold - frothy head - nose has a nice mix of mild spice (nutmeg, all spice), earthy squash (pumpkin, butternut) and earthy yeast funk - all are mild but well-integrated - soft carbonation - full mouthfeel - flavor is much like the aroma - very nice integration of spices, earthy squash, and mild funkiness - I really enjoyed this - when Chad nails it, he really nails it - too bad beers like this are few and far between.

Slightly hazy golden copper with a large foamy and sticky white head. Lovely nose of crushed dead leaves and spicy funky saison with some barreled fruity sourness. Lovely bright flavor with Belgian blonde grains and hay behind some funky sour tones and bright herbal notes and a slight dusty and peppery finish. Really great.

Bottle Autumn 2014. Pour has a light amber color with a thin coating of white head. Aroma has mild tartness, fruity yeast, licorice, lemon, and malt. Mouth feel is medium with good carbonation. Flavor has a medicinal thing going on, well malted, good tartness, lemon, herbs, oak, and a pleasant finish.

Pours slightly hazy apricot with a fairly thick and rather persistent ivory head. Malty aroma has strong fruity and spicy overtones - cinnamon, dusty herbs, pear, apple, a hint of oak. Fruity flavor is mainly cinnamon and slightly sour apple plus herbs, cloves, oak, and whispers of licorice and butterscotch. Texture is firm and smooth, and somewhat fizzy. Well, itís autumn south of the equator - enjoy it in any season.

Bottle thanks to LeninCat. Nose is a minty, fresh cut grass, herbal explosion. Very pleasant and inviting. Slight ginger and coriander, licorice. Perfume. Lightly hammy. Hazy orange with small white head. Taste is lightly tart to puckering. Spices come through in the mid palate. Taste is slightly disappointing compared to the nose. I donít think the sour works well in the flavor with the spices. Overall this is a nice beer.

Bottle @ home. Hazed orange pour with white foam. Slightly tangy citrus nose with some orange and lemon. Mild licorice/anise, a bit of spice, and some grass. Maybe a little yeasty, some sweet bread, and toasted grains. Flavor has a bit of malty sweetness and some orange juice. Slightly acidic lemon zest and tangy sourdough. Very light herbal and dry spice bitterness on the finish.

Brewvival 2015 Trip #79. Bottle at Brewvival. Pours a clear copper with a thin fizzy tan head. Decent retention. Aroma of intense herbal notes, sage and thyme, rye, stone fruits, pale malts. The taste is herbal and floral notes, pale malt, spice. Medium bodied.

The beer is a dark yellow. Itís quite cloudy. Medium white head, which fades steadily after the initial pour. The aroma has a big floral note on top of oranges, lemons and underripe apricots. Stonefruit pits and oak. Thereís a lot of oddball spice, and itís just not working for me. Thereís something a bit abrasive about the combination, particularly an odd spoiled orange juice character. Taste is moderate to medium sour. Thereís not really all that much pucker, but itís more than expected and seems weird against the citrus and other flavors. Light feel with some tanginess. This is the first CS beer that Iíve tried in awhile that I didnít care for. Thereís just something about the spicing that throws it off for me.

Earthy, lemon grass aroma with some lactic tartness. Some floral, but like jasmine or hibiscus floral. Nice aroma, nothing mind blowing. Taste is balanced between a funky and lactic sour. Prob half of each. Not overly sour, maybe 3 of 10 sour. Complex with lots of flavors. Lemon citrus, hibiscus, woody/oaky flavors with a bitter dry finish. It is quite good, although I would prefer more vinous sour (although I always prefer more sour). The hibiscus/jasmine floral gets more prominent as you drink it. Almost like my tongue is coated by the flower taste. Another nice beer from crooked stave, just all around solid. Nothing mind blowing, but then again nothing bad about it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
