COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fertile Soil is an unfiltered fresh hopped golden ale brewed with all local ingredients. This beer pays homage to Colorado agriculture and the wonderfully sunny state we live and brew our beers in. We soured our malt from Colorado Malt Company in Alamosa, Biodynamic hops from Jack Rabbit Hill in the North Fork Valley, a Belgian yeast strain from the Brewing Science Institute in Woodland Park, and ice cold Rocky Mountain water from Fort Collins. Please enjoy this beer fresh, respect the hops and do not age.

750ml bottle, batch 1-11/11, bottle 275/838. Pours a hazy dark gold with a huge creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is bretty, slightly soured hops...pretty sweet. There’s some sweet fruit and floral notes as well.

The flavor is bready malts and a little yeasty banana with some fruit and brett and a good dose of floral hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and a bit watery.

Overall, a very interesting beer. One of the better hoppy Belgian ales I’ve had. I normally don’t care for the mix of Belgian yeast and hops, but this has a nice twang to it (from Brett?).

Thanks to drabmuh for sharing this bottle. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Bottle 227/838 Pours a clear, sparkling yellow color with a very large, creamy white head that lasts around for quite some time before eventually falling to a cap, leaving a sheet of lacing on the glass. The nose carries some mild funk and pineapple character. Light lemon and citrus in the background. Good Brett throughout. Flavor has a light funk and bitterness. Body is light with moderately-high carbonation and a very dry finish. Nice and funky. Really great finish. Another solid hit from Crooked Stave. Would love to try this one again.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle is hazy golden with big, big fluffy white head, hard to pour, aroma has notes of spicy yeast, nice biscuity bread, hints of lemon, fruity esters, slight grassy notes, but mainly a nice spicy belgian ale. Taste is some biscuity bread, hints of fruity esters, touch of funky dusty notes as well. Seems a bit old, probably should have had it earlier, but still fairly tasty.

Bottle 723/838 from batch 1 11/11 thanks to Ratman! Pours with a massive (glass filling) white head with thick bubbles. Retentive and leaves great lace. Hazed golden hue (deep gold) body underneath. Aromas are very flora, citrusy, lightly herbaceous hops, medium funk, lots of esters. Nearly a Brett C tropical/pineapple character. Mild earthy and peppery phenolics. Mildly bready and biscuity malt rounds it out. A touch grassy. Very nice. Flavors are a bit more malt forward at first. Bready, biscuity, soft. Mild grassy and hoppy character. Herbal as well with subdued funky phenolics. Medium esters of belgian yeast and fruit character I normally associate with Brett A or C. Some stone fruit. A touch more rustic, earthy, straw qualities as it warms. Very lively carbonation. Dry, soft (very soft overall character), and mild bitterness. Good, tasty, solid!

It poured a golden color with a small white head. The aroma was of some earthiness, pine, grapefruit and a hint of bread. The taste was of earthiness, pine, grapefruit and some bread. A very good Belgian Ale.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. A huge gusher. White foam that leaves nice lacing. A funky fruity sulphury aroma. A softer flavor than the nose hints at. Fruit and sulphur. A bit of yeast and some sour funk. This is nice.

750 bottle from Lukas. Pours a hazy yellow / gold with a thick white head. Nice nose of minerals and bready yeast. Light funk and citrus on the palate with a mineral / saison-like finish. Liked the fact that this uses all Colorado ingredients, though a bit pricy for a "golden ale". Chad is doing some funky stuff with beers and hope he keeps it up. Looking forward to trying more..
