Specified as the Chardonnay barrel. On tap at Funkwerks. Pours with a hazed golden hued body and a white head. Aromas are a bit grainy, some DMS, spicy, funky, ginger, white wine. Flavors are a touch tart, cherrios (something I get in my young golden sours when I brew), young tasting, cheese, funk, light brett, oak, white wine. Lively bubbles, dry. Young and a bit off.

draft. vanillin chardonnay drenched crystalline lemon candy bile acid in the nose with sweaty bacteria of armpit / Limburger cheese (yep, it smells like brevibacterium linens). cheese rind and moldy milk has me gagging. medium body, tart and slowly drying late but thins and turns watery and flabby in the finish with stale paper, mild vanillin, oak tannins and more skin / cheese bacteria, but it turns more towards oil fats rather than milk fats. pretty bad stuff.

UGH
Rancid coconut milk. Smells just like the fat cap you get off of a can of separated coconut milk. Nose is totally dominated by gross suntan oil greasy fakeness that you get from American oak barrels. Mouth has lemon pith tart/bitterness, with caramel and bandaid notes. Unpleasant.

On tap the Funkwerks, pour is slightly hazy reddish-orange with white head, aroma brings notes of grape, guava, tropical fruit, toffee, slight funk, herbal, hints of biscuit in there as well. Taste is really nicely balanced, with notes of white grape, some slight oak, sweet toffee, tropical fruit, biscuit, hints of pear and guava, some slight herbal and spice notes, finishing with a slightly tart and funky finish. Nicely done!

Draft at Funkwerks. Pours a lightly hazed deep gold with a stiff white head. The nose first speaks to the wine notes. Distinct hones note in the nose. White grapes and soft citrus notes and a bit of oak as well. A bit of a clean earthiness also. On tasting, lots of yeast character, white pepper and a suggestion of clove. Some more of the wine character comes through on the palate. Dry finish and clean. Nice beer.

Well, I am a fan of the original base beer, and this one works quite well - the original is mellow and dry, so this left a lot of room for the barrel to add character - a lot of chard and oak in the nose - the flavor retains the toasted, dry maltiness of the original and the oak plays off of this well - the chard adds some lovely dry tannins to the mix - then lavender from the base beer pushes to the fore in the finish - lightly tart finish, with lingering lavender - well done!
