Pours dark brown with a quickly-diminishing tan head that quickly fades to a thin collar and few swirls for a cap. The nose is more spirit heavy than the other two variants of the base. Bourbon presence is fairly heavy with some oak and light chocolate in the background. Vanilla as well. As it warms, there is a light dark fruit character along with a bit of roast.
The flavor is pretty barrel heavy as well, though it is more oak coming to the frot with some tannin. Bourbon is in the background along with slight roast, and just a bit of underlying acidity.
Medium body and fairly dry. Carbonation is a bit low, but appropriate for the style. Tannin through the finish.
My least favorite of the series, but still a nice beer stemming from a solid concept.

Bottled. Poured deeper brown with a short-lived head. The aroma picked up lots of tangy, almost metallic bourbon with accents of coconut and fruity Brett.. it was kind of hard to get down to the toasty cocoa and brown malt, but it was there. The flavor found very sour vinegar and bourbon barrel on the tip of the tongue, with accents of funky fruit and a kiss of cherries.. sour bourbon barrel, cherries, and funk on the long finish. Medium-bodied with moderate (and ideal) carbonation on the palate.. bracingly sour, but the malt bill was tasty and it held up fairly well.

This was the beer that got me to come to Brooklyn this fine day and it did not disappoint. Pours deep brown with lovely nose of dark fruits and some vinous notes. Tastes of funky Brett, oak, blackberries, tart cherries, some earth, wine residue, and bourbon. The bourbon is just right and not heavy handed. Great palate great beer, great to start NY beer week.

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Tart, punchy, in your face flavor, blackcurrant and unripe strawberry. Whiskey is well integrated. Nose is fairly mellow, a touch fruity and a lot of citric acid.

Draft. Black pour with a bit of head. Brett, tart cherry and fruit, oak an bourbon aromas. Flavor is a smooth combination of tart fruit, Brett and bourbon. Very nice.

2013 from bottle: I love this beer whiskey lots of whiskey on the nose as well as some fun sour notes taste is roast quite sour and the whiskey shines through I have had this beer many times and this vintage is by far my favorite.

Grand cru in leopold whiskey.
A: Purple pointing to black. Thin creme head that dies down. Good lacing.
N: Funky horse blanket, leather, cherry, grain, oak. Full on lemon and grapefruit.
T: Sour, sour, sour. Lactic. Really not much else to say about it.
M: Slick. Light bodied.
O: Big single note: A tuba blaring sourness. Brett has zero accompiment. Sold tongue ripper.

Note quite black, tiny tan head. Aroma has some roast but a lot of tartness. A bit of porter notes but the tartness is very strong. Nice, but its drying my mouth our or something, really tart and tannic.

This beer is ridiculous! Pours a porter brown with tan head. Nose is slight roast, slight fruit, slight funk, wood, vanilla, earthy Brett, and noticeable tartness. Smells like a barreled porter with tart fruit, and some Brett. Flavor is similar: immediate tartness, some roast, some dark fruit, some chocolate, oak, some vinous tartness, and some earthy Brett with tartness all around. Very complex, very enjoyable beer.

Cherry, Balsamic, Vanilla, Oak, and heavy bourbon. Flavor is heavily tart, lightly sweet, and heavy wet wood. Good stuff.

Big bourbon flavors, tart, no sulfur notes which is nice, pretty good beer if unbalanced
