Bottle. Pours dark dark crimson black with a medium tan head that dissipates slowly with nice lacing. Aroma is woody, whisky, tart cherries, earthy funk, toffee. Flavor hits you hard with mouth puckering tartness up front, followed by nice oaky whisky dark cherry malty notes, some vinous notes as well. Medium body, tart through and through, quite complex and tasty.

Bottle: Super deep, crimson-y tinted brown with a dark-ish, khaki head that fades quickly to a bubbly, foamy skin. Aroma has defined notes of sour lacto, black cherry skins, damp wood, mild boozy warmth, & a touch of lemon tartness in the finish. Taste starts with a nice spike of tartness, then leadings into a more long-lasting, mellow sourness throughout. Cherry, spicy barrel, lemon, red apple... The barrel aging is noticeable in the form of a boozy undercurrent, but I wouldn’t guess specifically Rye Whiskey. Sweet, dark plum finish with a mild hint of lasting, lemon-y lacto tartness. Despite the fact that you can still notice the barrel aging, it drinks easier than 10% ABV, & it’s thinner than you’d expect, too. Dry... Overall, a very nice sour from Crooked Stave.

375ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of sour/tartness, whiskey, dark malts, oak, notes of dark fruits, and more sourness. Flavor the same with an incredible blend of everything. Average texture. A really good beer.

Sample for a botte at EBF Saturday. Huge earthy lactic funk, nice puckering beer!

Bottle @ The HUGE Tasting. The pour’s deep brown with a small head. Jammy raspberry tart on the nose. Funky yeast. A bit of brown bread and caramel. The taste is raspberry fruit rollup. Tannic red berry skin. Buggy wood. Some dirt. Medium body, vibrant on the palate. Great stuff.

Pour is dark, black esq., with a bubbly tan head. Nose is charred wood and some marshmallow. Lacto sourness and cherry, a touch acetic in the nose. Taste follows, not really acetic. Strong carbonation, Lighter body. Less wood, more cherry. Lacto is fairly present mid palate with notes of marshmallow and vanilla.

this one was not quite as good as the most recent release of nightmare on brett. lots of vanilla and oak on the palate whiskey was a bit subdued fairly tart. sweet and roasty lots of barrel shinning through while I enjoyed this beer the newer batches show case what this beer can be much more so.

This one poured a murky lighter brown with a beige head. Aroma was of brett, lemons, caramle. Flavor was very very tart, teeth stripping almost, vinious for sure, vinegar and oaky wood. Not really my thing.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2014 Tap at taproom. Dark brown with lacy ring. Nose is rich deep, bourbon, wet oak, light brett, dark dried fruit. Flavor is oak, light vanilla, brett, well integrated bourbon and quite a sour finish. Complex and probably my favorite offering I have had from them hands down.

Tap at the brewery. Pours clear dark brown with fizzy beige head. Aroma is toasted malts, whiskey, oak, vanilla, sour dark fruit, and light vanilla. Flavor is sour fruit esters, light sweet malts, oak, and faint whiskey; crisp, dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
