Enjoyed at Freetail Bottleshare 2015... Dark berries, nutty malts, leather, vanilla, whiskey barrel, deep sour complexity... Really good beer even better than original ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

At my place with Taylor on a Wed night. Thank you Stephen for being a badass and hooking me up with these CS bottles. Pours brown murky with no head. Aroma is sour medium plus acidity. Taste is dark complex sour, oud bruin but more sour and more subtle complex barrel notes. It is still a bug sour beer but has been mellowed out by the barrel aging. I love the original, but love this one even more. Awesome sour.

Bottle to glass. Pours a light to medium brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is tart, sour grapes, light whiskey and smoke character. Flavor is moderately sour, slight funk. Oily body that lingers on the tongue. Another tasty sour from crooked stave.

Bottle from a trade. Hazy burgundy pour with tiny lacings on top. Nose is tart, leather, vanilla and some red berries. Complex taste, medium tartness, some vanilla sweetness and light juicy berry finish. Easy drinkable. I don’t pick up notes from the whiskey barrels though.

Bottle shared at Darkness day. Pours reddish dark brown with minimal head. Smells of wiskey wood and slight funk. Good wiskey flavor mixed with tart sour and nice finish. Really good.

Sample at Kurtkeller 011: Crooked Stave-tastic 01 on 05/02/2014. Pours a murky copper-brown color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of tart berries, caramel, oak and bourbon. Medium-bodied with vinous and cherry notes and oaky bourbon and caramel malt flavors. The finish is tart fruits and subtle bourbon. Good beer all around.

375ml bottle in a tulip. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of sourness/tartness, dark malts, oak and whiskey, light chocolate, some vanilla, and dark fruits. Flavor a really cool blend of it all. Average texture. A very nice beer.

UPDATED: APR 25, 2014 Bottle: Deep mahogany body, a little murky & topped with a gray-tinted, flimsy head that falls apart quickly but leaves some decent, bubbly lacing behind. Aroma is similar to the "Nightmare on Brett Grand Cru" opened just before this... Dark fruit, currants, black cherry, noticeable tartness, though not as explicitly lacto-like. I get some more spice from this one; almost cinnamon like, mild vanillin, spicy oak. Very faint, sweet whiskey notes in the back-end. Taste is similar as well - more lacto sourness shows up on the palate with notes of cherry, currants, lemons, wood, a hint of vanilla, & a slight bit of wine-like boozy warmth leading into the dry finish. Another very nice sour beer from Crooked Stave... Very similar to the Nightmare on Brett beer aged in the same barrels.
