COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is my current project with countless hours spent conceptualizing the process and design behind Petite Sour. While this is the "table version" of our Farmhouse ale "Surette", the process is a blend of brewing techniques from farmhouse breweries which use to span from Northern Germany to Northern France. Drawing inspiration from Berliner-weisse, Gose, Farmhouse Wit and Saison, Petite Sour is a true farmhouse beer. For this rendition I used a mixed culture of lacto and Brett to ferment a portion of the beer giving a cleaner acidity compared to the previous spontaneous batch. This batch of Petite Sour was again fermented and aged in our oak foeder as a blend of two beers. I’ll continue to tweak the recipe and process until this beer gets to…well, wherever our travels lead us

Bottle from Scott - thanks! Pours a bright and vibrant hazy yellow with a small froth of white foam that quickly reduces to a slick of bubbles. Steady and lively carbonation. Aroma is light wheat-type grain with funk, lemon, minimal tart, and gueuze-like characteristics. Taste is not as complex as the flavor suggests and is heavy on the sour with tart, wheat, and lemon. Clean mouthfeel that gos a bit watery into the finish. Hugely flavorful sub 5% ABV beer. I really like this beer. The brewer has an original vision and is pursuing it; a few tweaks to the beer and it could easily go from good to world class amazing. Looking forward to trying more Crooked Stave offerings.

Bottle shared at Great Taste ticket line (Madison, WI). Pours a well hazed yellow straw hue, pale glow, frothy bright white head atop dies down to a small filmy ring, laces ok. Aromas are quite sour, lemony and lactic, flaked wheat, lemon, crab apple and some fruity apple, pear, mellow yeast. Oranges and citrus. Touch of oak, firm yogurt as it warms a touch. Grainy, fruity, fresh. Initial is lighter end of the fold, pear and lemon fruit, firm sourness strikes the palate. Some gentle yeast, yogurt, and gentle spice. Earth, oak, the middle shows more fruit, a bit light in body, firm sourness for said body. A touch yeasty, backend shows that fruit character. Tangelo, tangerines, oranges, lemons. Some crab apple, straw, lactic acidity is firm sourness. Finish is a bit yeasty, that pear and apple swing back, a touch estery with flaked wheat, bready, and dry straw. Some white grape, grapefruit. Pretty nice. Some complexity, a rolling experience that goes sour, a bit of malt, fruity backend and a return to sour. A bit light in body, perhaps a bit much for others but I find it refreshing, some nice fruit complexities throughout.

pours a bubbly, champagne like golden. Tart, barnyard lemon nose. Aroma is a nice balance of funk and fruit. Up front on the palate is tart lemon. Which gives way to a funky sour bite, but not overwhelming. Absolutely fantastic.

Wow, aroma right away brings strong funk, almost methane. Pours thick unclear lemonade yellow in color with a small white head that dissipates. Flavor is quite sour, bringing tart lacto dominating with some lemony notes as well on a decent body.

Smells like bubble gum, then switches completely in your mouth. Pours cloudy orange. Pretty well-balanced sour. Wish I could taste the guava a little more because I love guava fruit. Pours light cloudy orange, medium consistency. Bottle thanks to Sammy.

Bottle shared by levi, pours a hazy yellow with a very thin head, the aroma has a nice amount of funk and sour fruit with a little bit of dust as well, the flavor is puckering sour on the front end with a nice smooth finish, the fruit really comes through as well, this was one of the first things we opened this night and it was one of my favorites.

Bottle shared by levifunk...thanks Levi! - Pours hazy pale yellow with a ring of white head. Tons of fruit on the nose--mango, pear, kiwi--just a melange of sweet tropical fruit. Light tart vinegar sourness. Taste is much of the same fruit, lots of mineral, drying sourness and a nice tart finish. Medium body with a lot of carbonation. Great stuff.

750ml shared by Levi. Unfiltered, very hazy yellow-tan. Soda-like carbonation, no real head. Funked oout barnyard aroma, lots of manure and odd very musky. The taste is really right on. Lemony, with a nice lactic tone. Really drinkable, even with the tartness. Remarkably light and fluffy on the palate. Really cool beer, glad I got to try it!
