COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is my current project with countless hours spent conceptualizing the process and design behind Petite Sour. While this is the "table version" of our Farmhouse ale "Surette", the process is a blend of brewing techniques from farmhouse breweries which use to span from Northern Germany to Northern France. Drawing inspiration from Berliner-weisse, Gose, Farmhouse Wit and Saison, Petite Sour is a true farmhouse beer. For this rendition I used a mixed culture of lacto and Brett to ferment a portion of the beer giving a cleaner acidity compared to the previous spontaneous batch. This batch of Petite Sour was again fermented and aged in our oak foeder as a blend of two beers. Iíll continue to tweak the recipe and process until this beer gets toÖwell, wherever our travels lead us

Bottle from Scott - thanks! Pours a bright and vibrant hazy yellow with a small froth of white foam that quickly reduces to a slick of bubbles. Steady and lively carbonation. Aroma is light wheat-type grain with funk, lemon, minimal tart, and gueuze-like characteristics. Taste is not as complex as the flavor suggests and is heavy on the sour with tart, wheat, and lemon. Clean mouthfeel that gos a bit watery into the finish. Hugely flavorful sub 5% ABV beer. I really like this beer. The brewer has an original vision and is pursuing it; a few tweaks to the beer and it could easily go from good to world class amazing. Looking forward to trying more Crooked Stave offerings.

February 2nd, 2013 - My visit to Crooked Stave is coming to a wistful end as I approach my last sampler glass: the Petite Sour. Iím unsure what makes this sour "small", but everything before it has been acidic, and tasted like a small miracle in a glass. The Petite Sour is much more buttery on the nose, and I suspect, uses Brett to achieve a farmyard smell. But imagine a farm setting in a misty, dewy morning, hauling shaggy, wet hay. Thatís the first whiff of this sour, with follow-up smells of popcorn, cornbread and grits - several smells Iíve never encountered quite so strongly or elegantly in a beer before. The flavor goes in a completely different direction. The palate is noticeably thin, and first delivers a cleaner, sweeter taste of cereals, corn and pineapple...actually, lots and lots of pine apple and orange juice. So much so that the Petite Sour begins to taste like a sour and tangy piŮa colada. Odd to have such a tropical flavor in a gray, snow-laden city? Yes, but itís another creative expression of Crooked Staveís adventurous brewing. This doesnít reach the same apogee of perfection as the Brett díOr, but itís fun, and well worth chasing for beer tasters on safari in our fine city of Denver.

750 mL bottle. Pours a hazy orange-amber color with not much of a head. Aroma of mild brett, mild lactic sourness, buttery malts, jammy stone fruits. Bright. The taste is lactic sourness, citrus, stone fruits, a bit of brett, blackberry jam and wood notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation, mild lingering funk, lingering fruits, decent balance. Nice beer.

Traded bottle. Hazy golden pour with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Big aroma that has a hint of sourness but is mostly dominated by grain and popcorn. Pleasant flavor with a nice sour note, some lemony citrus acid and a quick clean finish. Nice overall.

Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Light yellow pour with a white head. The aroma is full of wheat with some lightly tart notes and some yeast. The flavor is similar. The tart wheat notes come through up front with some apples, lemons and yeast also being present. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

750 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours a cloudy yellow gold color with a fleeting white film. The aroma has lemony citrus, funk, hay, wood, acidity leaning toward vinegar. The flavor has a Berliner like mild lemony citrus, funk, wood, hay, acidity, mild vinegar notes; overall, a decent low alcohol option.

750mL. Clear straw with fizzing out white foam, acid cut, with champagne carbonation. Nose is fresh peach, citrus zest...moves to some raw grist, gamey wildflower honey...even something like fresh parsnip. Taste is prickly carbonation up front, blood orange San Pelligrino, bright and juicy peach and pineapple are center stage. Huge lactic acid in back end- massive yogurt. Refreshing and quenching. Easy to love.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured hazy golden color with a minimal fizzy white head that was lasting with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy sour yeast aroma. Medium to abundant body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sour flavor with a medium sour finish of moderated duration. This is a solid beer.
