Vieille meaning ďOldĒ is our artisinal barrel-aged Saison, lightly dry hopped. Each batch release is a diverse blend of Vieille casks that have taken on a soft Brettanomyces character before being lightly dry hopped. Dominated by a floral, citrusy hop character, a subtle herbal note and a tart finish, Vieilleís character exemplifies artisan Saisons.

Pours a very hazy, pale golden yellow color with dark straw colored edges and a two finger frothy white head that quick settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention with streaks of soapy lacing coating the glass on the way down. Earthy, musty aroma with a decent amount of barnyard funk and damp oak along with some horse blanket, wild bugs, lactic cheesiness, bready yeast and ester-y light fruit notes. Has similar character as a Gueuze with lactic funk, dank, musty earth, citric acidity, cobweb and damp basement along with some peppery spice, yeast, acetic acid and sweeter light fruits. Very funky with lots of oak and wild bugs along with lactic cream, lemon juice, grass, straw, apple and pear. Very complex and very close to an authentic Belgian sour. On the fuller end of medium body with crisp, light carbonation and some tart, puckering sourness that lingers over the musty bugs, dry oak, earthy funk, acidic acid and sweeter fruit notes into a dry, acetic finish. Decent amount of tart sourness but could use more acidity. The sourness is cut by some lactic, cheesy funk and dry, toasted oak. Wild bugs contribute to the funk but thereís a sweet vinous presence that compliments the bready yeast and ester-y light fruit notes. Almost has a white wine like characteristic mid-palate with some light grape and stone fruit flavor. Hints of grass and straw complimenting the bugs and funky yeast before hints of bread, apple and lemon juice come through in the finish. Citric acidity becomes more prevalent as it warms but it could be a little stronger for my preference. Some lingering acetic acid on the back end but itís not harsh or solvent like. Overall, this is a very interesting and flavorful beer. Kind of like a light American version of gueuze blended with earthy saison notes. Refreshing and easy to drink with complex flavors. Another solid beer from the folks at Crooked Stave.

Itís just pretty good all the way around- Good aroma with lots of yeast, some caramel malt, funk, bit of fruit. Flavorís similar to nose with lemon added plus bitter tart, sweet in back. Textureís a bit soft; nice. Easy drinking. Nothing exceptional, but good.

Pours hazy pale golden color with white head. Funky brett and lime aromas with some floral, wood, and white wine. Tart flavor with funky brett, sour citrus, and oak. Light to medium body with lively carbonation. Iím really liking this beer. I could drink lots of this if it wasnít so expensive.

Shared at a tasting hosted by Steve Hackley on September 25. Thanks Steve! This was poured from a 375 mL bottle. The pour is a pretty clear light gold color with a small white cap of head that remains for quite a long time. The aroma has a little lime and some sourness in there. Itís surprisingly good being that I donít care for saisons. I like the little funkiness thatís present on the back end as well. The flavor is pretty good. There is a nice tropical fruit happening, which I like, and then it kind of tails off into a little bit of a funky pepper. The sour is still pretty apparent throughout. The mouth feel is light and crisp with a nice carbonation. The aftertaste is lingeringly citrusy hop and a good spicy funk. Not too bad at all for a style that Iím not crazy about

if youíre looking for a challenging yet highly interesting and drinkable saison this is it. definite poop and baby sick on the nose, thereís also a fresh peashoots note. thankfully those undesirable flavours donít make it through to flavour which is very much a light tartness, lactic, vegetal, leafy hops, silage, moderate carbonation, peashoots, dry finish. the oak is a mere caress allowing the brett character to show through.

Hazy gold with a thin head, funky lightly tropical fruit nose, dry-tart with a hint of sweetness, notes of citric and ascorbic acids, hay and banana. Odd yet balanced.

Clear golden with a small white head, (didnít dump the yeast in). The aroma has a nice lime-brett character, with some sweet malt and a bit of earthiness. The flavor is a huge blast of tropical fruit and citrus, which seems like it is produced by both hops and the brett. There is also a nice peppery note and some substantial sourness that adds even more complexity.
