Vieille meaning “Old” is our artisinal barrel-aged Saison, lightly dry hopped. Each batch release is a diverse blend of Vieille casks that have taken on a soft Brettanomyces character before being lightly dry hopped. Dominated by a floral, citrusy hop character, a subtle herbal note and a tart finish, Vieille’s character exemplifies artisan Saisons.

375 mL bottle purchased at Belmont Station. Pours a cloudy bright yellow color with a quick fade head. Floral and sour fruit aroma. Flavor has a nice citrus front flavor, with short spice, dominant brett, and a delicious overall tart flavor. Very nicely done here. Love it.

0,375 l bottle from Rudat, batch 14 (2014). Hazy, pale yellow with a medium large, fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. Heavy gusher. Sourish-fruity aroma of citrus, gooseberry, grapefruit and rhubarb, a little funky. Sourish-fruity aroma of citrus, gooseberry, rhubarb and grapefruit, followed by a short, medium tart finish. Thin to medium body, spritzy and slightly astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very refreshing, but annoyingly I was not prepared for such a heavy gusher. But the taste makes amends.

Bottle. Moderate aromas of grain, straw and cereal for the malt, grass for the hops, and musty barnyard for the yeast, with hints of vinegar and cardboard. Head is average size, frothy, white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky but sparkling medium amber. Flavor starts moderate to heavily acidic and acetic, then finishes moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a lively carbonation and finishes tart and dry. A nice crisp Saison, maybe a touch too sour.

Aroma: farmhouse, sourness, barrel notes, wheat. Appearance: hazy straw color, almost no head. Taste: low bitterness (herbal), farmhouse, zesty, camomile, sourness, barrel notes, quite dry. Palate: low body and medium carbonation, zesty finish. Overall: I expected something more complex, but it is still ok.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma is full of grass and earthy grains with a touch of citrus and a bit of funk. Flavor has a good amount of citrus with a bit of funk some barrel and a bit of flora and sweet grain in the finish.

Bottle at home. Low fluffy and quickly disappeering white head. Hazy dark yellow body. Mild fruity aroma with acidic notes of lemon. Powerful sour rather than acidic lemon grapefruit vinegar flavor with little hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long sour finish. Dry wood earth notes can be spotted as well.
