Tasted on 9/27/14 from a capped 375mL bottle, big thanks to Churnstyle for sharing. Pours muddy brown with a few tan bubbles, but no real head. The nose is quite tart with a nice maple and toffee aroma, and some earthy funky yeast. The flavor is nicely sour up front, moving to the same maple, toffee, and caramel bourbon, with an added candied walnut note. The body is medium plus with plenty of tannin, no carbonation, and a long tart and bourbon finish.

Bottle; Pour is murky cola brown with a near nonexistent head into this glass - Well, it looks like shit so far. On to the rest - The nose is vinous, presenting some alcohol noes, with bourbon presence here. Dark fruit dominant, and lest we forget about the spice presence here. The flavor is more interesting - the profile is dark malt with toffee, chicory, with a more robust dark fruit and cherry presence that masks the alcohol content fairly well in comparison to the nose. It is earthy, it is wild and fruity, with a certain sweet tart note near the finish line, but all in all : it’s also muddled, like the appearance. The bourbon barrel provides some interest but it is modest. I look at it like an experiment in style fusion that doesn’t quite work.

375 ml bottle into a tulip. Pours a murky brown red with zero head. Sits in the glass like pond water, not a very pretty beer. Nose is sour cherries, spice, vanilla, toffee, acid and some alcohol. Taste is strong on the cherries and toffee with some vanilla and a strong biting lactic finish. Drinks a lot like a barrel aged flanders only brighter. A bit on the flat side. Pretty interesting and tasty.

Sample at Kurtkeller 011: Crooked Stave-tastic 01 on 05/02/2014. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium foamy off-white head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, malt and yeast. Full-bodied with flavors of earthy malt, bourbon, fruity yeast and oak. The finish is malty up front with a dark fruit and oaky bourbon aftertaste. Good beer overall.

375ml bottle shared by Brad. Pretty awesome beer. Soured, intense, more so than the bourbon, but still captures some of that as well. Biting sharp sourness. The bourbon barrel and deep malt flavors are sort of there, but sort of eaten away too. Really cool beer.

Bottle (375 ml). Shared by Pier-Luc, thanks! Clear amber with no head and no lacing. Aroma is fruity with coconut, bourbon, tartness notes, wood and vanilla. Taste is also fruity and moderately sour along with bourbon, caramel, wood, coconut and light apple. Medium body. Very low carbonation. Kind of winey mouthfeel. Interesting beer. It would be weird if this was not advertised as a Wild Quad, but that’s exactly what it it. The Crooked Stave signature is recognizable here.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Mostly clear mahogany ale with a small, short-lived, white head. The nose is a mingling of bourbon, caramel, ethanol and red wine. Medium-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and soft carbonation. The sour flavor provides light bourbon and vinous burgundy notes. Finishes super tart, boozy and warming. Thanks to ctipping for sharing this world class effort!

Slightly hazy brown colour, dissipating white head. Quite sour aroma, vanilla, wine, wood and redcurrants. Quite sour flavour, vanilla, mint, citrus peel and peanuts. Sour finish, quite refreshing, berries, vanilla, caramel, gooseberry and acetic acid. Nice enough sour - but while named a Wild Quad, I’d rather call it a Sour Ale than a Quad - I suspect people buying this expecting a Quadrupel style beer will be rather disappointed.
(From 37.5cL bottle @ ZZT 8b, Oirschot. Thanks for sharing, joes!)

Flesje tijdens zzt’13, bruine kleur en niet helder. Ruikt naar wijn, hout, zuur. Smaakt ook zo.
