Tasted on 4/13/14 from a capped 375mL bottle from the first year of the Cellar Reserve, big thanks to Aaron Nielsen for muling for me. Pours nearly opaque dark burnt amber with a thin bubbly head coaxed out of a vigorous that actually sticks around for some time. The nose is lemon sour with some dark, candi-style malt, brown sugar, and a nice vanilla cognac oak aroma. The flavor is a the same, delicate, but complex with the same lemon sour, hint of candi and brown sugar, faint touch of vanilla oak, and even some herbal white peppercorn. The body is nearly full with nearly no carbonation, light tannin, and a long sour and herbal white peppercorn finish.

(375ml bottle) Pours a hazy amber-brown body with a spare off-white head. Aroma of berries, cherry, caramel, wood, and cognac. Flavor of berries, balsamic, wood, cognac, leather, and caramel with a dry finish.

Beaver (1637) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 21, 2016
12.7 oz bottle, 3-4 years old. Pours hazy amber brown with no carbonation (bad bottle seal?).

The aroma is tart and sour vinous fruit with some sweetness.

The flavor is sweet sugary fruit with lots of tart sourness followed by some maltiness and some slightly harsh leathery alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with no carbonation.

Overall, there’s lots of sweet fruity sourness, but no carbonation and some odd notes.

Keg at Kings Arms tap takeover, London. It pours a dark mahogany color with small beige head. Aroma is sweet dark fruits, cocoa, vanilla, light booze, orange peel and tart red berries. Taste holds some winey musty notes, alongside more sweet orange marmalade, chocolate, caramel and some tart red berries. Medium bodied with ok carbonation. Overall, tasty

King’s Arms Tap Takeover. Keg. Opaque black - brown beer, tiny pale tan head. Palate is light, dry and crisp. Modest dark malts, a whisper of dark chocolate. A dried fruit and lemon sourness emerges. Tart dark fruits and a little Coca Cola. A forensic trace of Cognac. Finishes light. A quad? Bit sour for that innit?

Keg at the Kings Arms during the Crooked Stave tap takeover - London. Big ups to the pub for getting these beers in! Pours murky dark brown with a creamy beige head. The nose holds brown sugar, molasses and tangy, dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with lots of wood, old leathery berries, Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tart finish with more woody notes, modest earthy bitterness, beat-up leather. Novel.

Keg at the Crooked Stave tap take over, Kings Arms BG, 25/04/15. Murky black with moderate light tan spotting. Nose is big on tarte fruit rinds, spice, earthy, wooded, varnish, sour fruit, light cola cubes. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, dates, rich dark fruit, subtle Cognac BA, musty. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, drying close with a lick of well checked alcohol. Decent BA quad.

Scopey (12231) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 25, 2015
UPDATED: APR 26, 2015 Keg at The Kings Arms. It pours opaque brown with a small beige head. The nose is rich roast, boozy, brandy, honeycomb, burnt toffee and butterscotch. The taste is tart, tangy, dark fruits, big acidity, lemon sherbet, balsamic vinegar and plenty of tang with a short, dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Perhaps a bit too much acidity, but still a decent enough quad.

Boutip (5842) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 14, 2014
Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with zero head or any lacing. Aroma of stale caramel malt with some residual brown sugar notes is more or less pleasant. Taste is also dominated by stale caramel malt notes with light barrel-aged notes and some gross brown sugar residual notes. Body is light for style with zero carbonation and no real apparent alcohol notes. I either got a bad bottle or I just really didn’t appreciate the zero carbonation and stale notes associated with this beer.
