Bottle, pours hazy straw gold with tiny head that wasn’t lasting for long. Aromas of stone fruit, lemon skin, brett, and funk. flavor is most of the same with a strong peach or apricot sourness to it. Also has a lot of that rich crooked stave oak present. Really nice saison.

Bottle 2013 batch 4. drank Aug ’13. Pours hay yellow with white fizzy head. Aroma is very nice full tart funk and grain. Flavor follows suit very well balanced with clean lemon, some vinous notes on the side and funky yeasty long end. Feel is water, tart, cooling, the tickling at the end. Really wonderful refreshing saison.

Pours hazy, fizzy golden with a couple fingers white head.
Smell is rustic, lightly tart and a hint of citrus, barnyard and hay.
Taste is a good tart and herbal, like lemon water. Great barnyard funk.
Crisp and very easy to drink. Great.

Half pour at the brewery. This is the second beer I have had from Crooked Stave and I am now a believer. The aroma is clean, complex and tantalizing. Layers of vinaigrette, barnyard, lemon, soft oak, grape and cherry are here. The palate is nice and soft. Great sourness is in the flavor, but not powerful. It’s citrusy, floral and wild. Solid wooden notes lurk to keep this anchored.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at the Barrel Cellar. Pours a hazed pale gold with a small white head with larger bubbles. The aroma is super funky, with lemon, orange, apricot, oak, herbs, and spices. Some bready malts and vinous notes, as well. Flavor of lemon, oak, grass, sawdust, funk, apricot, peach, and subtle spice. Tart and funky, with moderate to medium carbonation and a light to medium body. Wow, this was excellent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2013 Buttery, lactic, damp oak nuances are immediately apparent in aroma and flavor.. Layers of green apple, white grape skins and mild funky yeast add complexity. Rather simple overall, though very well crafted and integrated. Lighter bodied, with medium carbonation and a short, dry, tart, mouthwatering finish. Solid overall... Definitely refreshing, without being overly sour at release. One of my favorite styles. A model definition of the style. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
some mild brett and sourness in the nose. lots of esters bouncing around, including fruity/pear notes. hazy medium honey color, head drops to lacing quickly. the assertive bitterness is challenged by a bitter response, building towards the finish. earthy and farmy. but none of the wild characteristics gets too out of hand, too dominant. the intense wild characteristics seem to counter one another to find balance.
