Some funkiness and wine on the nose. Pours an opaque gold. Sharp but not quite astringent taste, actually quite well balanced. Not a daily drinking beer for the price, but a nice treat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a hazy amber gold with a near white head that dissipates nearly completely. Aroma is quite dry with a good amount of funk and a bit of acid and earthy fruits. Flavor is dry as well with a good amount of funk and some earthy sour fruits with a hint of acid.

Pours a hazy peachy golden color with a finger of fizzy foam. On the nose its tart vinous notes, touch of grainy stonefruit... the palate follows suit with a nice medium carbonation that keeps the body light but still slightly silky. Nice dusty backbone slightly gueuze like with lots of light lemony funk. I wish this was on my local shelves cause Id drink the shit out of it !!! THANKS adnielsen !

Funky brett nose with dried apricots and yeasty bread. Clear gold orange with medium lacing and persistent ring. Clean upfront...this beer is mostly about the finish: lightly tart, bitter marmalade, vinous, touch of dust, and light but lingering funk. Donít get much oak directly. Compelling as always from these guys.

Delicious sample at the Crooked Stave barrel cellar. Fine example of the style. Deep yellow, grainy and musty flavor. Complex and dry flavor with light citrus notes.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2014 375 ml bottle. Orange and cloudy with a frothy off-white head and great retention. The aroma is mostly tart and sour fruitiness with funky yeast. Almost medium body with a slick texture and lively carbonation. Nice fruity sour bite that finishes chalky dry. Life is bitchin! Update: On tap at the brewery, batch 10. A great batch, funky, fruity and mildly sour. Same rating.

draft. cloudy wheat-colored body with a fine-bubbled white head. lactic acid, dish soap phenols, lemon juice and acid, perfume / potpourri, sulfur / egg shells and oak in the nose. has the same body characteristics of the other Crooked Stave I have had: over-attenuated and chalky, watery and weak malt body, etc. you have brett chewing, so of course it will be dry, right, which is a reason to NOT put it in oak. it could do without oak tannins and without lactic acid, then maybe we would be somewhere. instead itís over-oaked, over-dry, overly acidic with pasty and chalky yeast on a watery body. I really want to like it, I was crossing my fingers it may be something like Russian River Sanctification. a product of that quality made in Colorado would be a treasure. that or an un-oaked, un-soured Belgian golden such as Russian River Redemption? if only we were so lucky.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2014 Pours a golden hue with a clean white head. Aromas first of tart then spice, wood and funk. The front is a slight tart fruit into a bit of bitterness, oak and spice.Light bodied.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2013 Second Tasting, bottle. Pours a hazy orange gold with off-white head. Settles relatively quickly with thin stringy lacing. Aroma is sour, oaky, vinous, mild vinegar, hint of light fruit. Flavor is fruity, slight citrus, tart, heavily vinous, with a mildly oaky, lactic finish. Doesnít seem to have the off flavor I recall, perhaps a couple months of aging have rounded it out. Soft carbonation, smooth texture, very mildly dry finish. Better than I recall, seems a bit more refined. Rating may have been a bit high the first time, but it suits the second tasting and shall remain unchanged.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange gold with two fingers of coarse white head. Settlebto thick cap in minutes with some thick lacing. Aroma is lactic, sour, barnyard and slightly funky. Flavor is mildly tart and citric up front, fading into mildly fruity, mild sour, oaky/vanilla, vinous, and earthy. Slight bitter aftertaste that lingers. Soft carbonation, medium-light body, and mildly astringent mouthfeel. An interesting, smooth, mildy tart saison. Seems more refined than their saison veille artisanal.

Hazy golden orange finger of white head, which went away pretty quick. Aroma is not what I was expecting. Brett right away, lemon, wet hay, barnyard aromas. Taste is light body feel, earthy, sweet, nice tartness, not to sour. Quite refreshing as well. Overall pretty solid and interesting take on the style. Iíll be buying another bottle soon. Cheers!
