Bottle I brought home with me from a trip to Denver. Labeled batch 7/11, bottle 429/1599. Pours a light amber with a white fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is of light fruity brett funk with a hint of pepper and tartness. Taste is of tart saison with some rustic malt character popping in, then moving on to a light fruitiness with some creamy oat in the finish. Light bitterness and hints of european hops. Palate is tart and quite dry but very refreshing and smooth. Overall this is a good farmhouse beer with a great tartness, mild and balanced funkyness that presents itself as ripe fruit. Delicate in its approach, bright and playful in its flavors and really pleasant to drink. Great beer!

From notes. Enjoyed at Dougís house on July 04 for the first beer Iíve brewed with him! 375 mL bottle. The pour is a darker amber color with a large frothy white head that roils down leaving a bit of lace behind. The aroma is full of barnyard funk. There is a light tartness, but itís all spice and funk. Iím not getting a whole lot else. I canít say I care for it. The flavor is a little different with a nice addition of some lemon zest, but itís a little messy. It gets pretty vinous on the finish, which isnít really what Iíd like to see in a saison. Itís an interesting beer, but definitely seems a little messy. The mouth feel is lighter and crisp with a lightly sour funky lemon on the back end with a lot of dustiness. Hmm. Iím not sure how I feel about this one.

Another one from this American saison specialist, batch 15 so a vintage bottle of now two years old. Delicately ípaperyí lacing, medium thick, egg-white, irregular head, lightly hazy warm orange blonde colour with somewhat pinkish hue, turning more opaque peach-orange with yeast sediment added. Aroma strongly reminiscent of buttermilk, next to impressions of fruit yoghurt, lemon zest, melting butter, tulips, orange, peach, pineapple slices in syrup, goat cheese, wet hay, white bread, gooseberry, sweet white wine, white pepper, dry earth, wet wood but subtly so in spite of the oak ageing. Crisp, lively fruity onset, apricot, yellow plum and a lot of gooseberry, tart with a yoghurty sourness and even a lemony acidity that cuts through the whole palate without becoming too sharp or puckering; effervescent, smooth, supple body. Soft bready malt middle, caramelly touch, sweetish but well in balance with the vinous tartness, which dominates the finish amidst lingering malt sweetness, retronasal yoghurt with peach and subtle drying woody notes; a brief hint of earthy, ídimí hoppiness is there but provides structure íbehind the scenesí rather than actual bitterness. Softly tart, vinous, very fruity and yoghurty, this is a very pretty sour ale with a diary-like main character but very well crafted and beautifully balanced with enough sweetness to provide body and rotundity, though it is still the lemony sour theme that gets the last word. Crisp, quenching and very refreshing too, key factors in any good saison even in the modern sense of the word, i.e. at 6.2% ABV and in this case turned into a sour much more than any traditional Belgian saison would be.

Bottle. Hazy yellow, lively white head. Awesome big bretty presence, with clean crackery malts, zesty lemon, and spicy undertones. Just love these beers.

Bottle from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham. Cloudy amber with a frothy white head. Rich sour lemony brett aroma. The taste is really zingy tart lemon curd. Light oak too. Crisp and refreshing. Great.

Draft at liquor express. Pours golden with a thin white head. Leaves trace lacing in the glass. Big barnyard and funk on the nose. Lots of horse blanket flavor on the tongue along with some tartness. Finished clean. Lovely saison! I see why people are so Smokey and the Bandit about it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap into a wine glass showing a finger of clean white foam on top of well filtered hay yellow. The nose shows a citric forwardness of fresh and ripe lemon with a robust malt backbone. The palate is moderately carbonated and light to medium bodied. Medium tartness throughout with flavors of light citrus but a strong citric zesty bitterness that permeates the beer; distracting and overpowerful. The bitterness reaches into the finish and not a lot of maltiness to balance it out.

Some citrus and vinegar aroma here. Hazy orange pour with decent head and lacing. Light but well integrated oak. Tangy finish. Tap at The Sovereign.

Barrel age tart. Sweet light watery. Nice barrel and tart flavor. An interesting beer. Barrel has some impact. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
