Bottle care of Alan. Pours hazy orange with light head and random lace. Carbonation was medium to heavy. Nose is caramel pop, peach, brett, wood, fruit skin. Taste is very buttery, butterscotch flavor up front followed by tart peach, whiskey, and rind. Not bad but we prefered the chardonnay, it was too sweet at times. Medium body.

375ml bottle... Pours a medium tea-like brown with a flimsy soapy white head... Aroma of semi-sweet and rich peach whiskey upfront with a nice semi-sour backing. Let me try and use semi again. The Leopold is more prominent in this than the previous... Maple peach whiskey, semi-sour but tamed with an earthy finish. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. The peach whiskey was really prominent.

Flavors are of tart fruit, stone fruit, grainy, phenolic black, pepper, candied ginger, sweet and tart candies. Caramelized wood character, vanillin, mild brett, medium acidity. High tannin, lively carbonation, woody. Lively carbonation, dry, tasty, as are the others.

375 ml bottle from my Crooked Stave Membership 2013. Excellent. Thanks for the assist, Trustee Nielsen! Pours a deeper orange amber hue, a good haziness, dulled darker body. Some fiery orange dulled edges and bottom as certain light strikes. Frothy offwhite head atop dies to a decent film, laces ok and sticks around. Aromas throw distinct oak, peach, and gentle whiskey. Vanilla, lactic presence throws lemon, tart fruit, tart peach, and some straw. Gentle sweetness is overwhelmed by an aromatic barrel, fruit, lactic and nice elements here. Some bread, peach whiskey, yogurt and lemon. Really nice nose compared to the base. Peach whiskey barrel gives some nice complexity, a bit of white wine, a touch vinous, melon and green grapes, lemon mix with that peach lush element. Initial is completely different than the base. Firm sourness up front, lush fruit shows peach, melon, and green grape. Lemon and grapefruit, oak, vanilla, yogurt. Really inviting front end. Sour but not overwhelming. Middle start to show some of that tannic and whiskey element from the barrel. Vanilla, oak, spirit. Gentle touch, definitely not hot but distinct on the flavor. A bit bready, bland, the fruit picks up again as we enter the backend. Some bread, firm yogurt, wet oak. Funk, cobwebs, and straw. Touches of that whiskey element stick around but aren’t hot or offensive. But at times are a bit too potent for me. The peach is cool, the whiskey is neat but at times a bit overdone (Again, on the tannic flavors.. not the heat). Backend is tart again, fruit, green apple and lemons, some peach lingers on. Lactic presence is firm, some decent brettiness. Oak, vanilla, and some green grape. Finish is tannic, tart and dry. Lactic, dry and pretty. That whiskey element certainly sticks. It didn’t come in until I settled into this beer, but certainly became a mainstay after that. I think this is a bit better than the base, but not as good as Reserva/Chard. the whiskey, while enjoyable, starts to overtake flavorwise at times (Not hot.. just distinct vanilla/tannic barrel presence). Nice beer in doses. Impressive experiment overall.

Pouring at The Festival in Portland with Kramer, Andrew, and J-Dadmond. Pours a clear gold under a thin white head. Peaches and wood, bourbon and vanilla. Soft tart acid, gentle bourbon into a bit of peach. Gentle acid over macerated peaches. Long acid and wood on the finish.
