Hazy golden pour with a light, white head. Aroma of isovaleric, sweaty cheese, acetic, and overall funk. Flavor is sour, cheesy, little vinegar. Not sure if itís a saison, but itís good either way.

Aroma is spiced apple cider, taste is sour up front, then earthy, funky, sweet. A dry, sour feeling left in your mouth at the end. Enjoying this.

A softly hazed apricot body sits beneath a fading half inch frothy white head leaving dots and short peninsulas of lace

Aromas and flavors of tart, juicy, tightly woven light and tropical fruit notes with herbal spicy accents and a touch of barnyard on a creamy oak base, vinuous, on a silky smooth, mildly carbonated medium body drying to a light creamy residual echoing the previously mentioned components

At Crooked Stave during GABF week 2014. Barnyard aromas and immediately you know this is going to be on the sour side for a saison. Dirt, dried leave and grain. Some light spices and quite sour for the style. Excellent saison.

From the label: 2014 Batch 13 Appearance: Light hazy golden orange color. Short white head that fades very quickly and leaves no lacing. Aroma: Musty old barnyard, a bit of pepper, and a bit lemony. Taste: There is a medium sourness up front, with some funky musty barn flavor, and a bit of a wheat-like grain on the finish. After drinking the beer and waiting for a bit, I get some hop character coming through which is slightly spicy. Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is great. Itís tart up front but it has a fairly low amount of carbonation. It finishes clean and dry without being puckery from the sourness. Very easy to drink. Overall: I recommend it and I would drink it again. Itís a great tasting saison that isnít over the top sour, and isnít so mellow that it bores you to death. Itís right there in the middle where it should be.

Bottle and draft. Pours a beautiful bright hazy golden body with thick white head and lasting lacing throughout. Aroma is funky lemon, brett, light wheat, earthy barn and light citrus fruits. Mouthfeel is medium, fresh and tart with notes of zesty fresh yeast, funky lemon, brett, wheat, barn and hay. Awesome sour saison.

With z, pours a hazy orange color with a small rapidly dissipating head. Nose is sour and tart with some oakiness. Taste is oaky with funk and wonderful tartness and sourness. Finish is crisp and dry, and ends on oaky and sour notes. A sour or a saison ? Nevertheless a great ale . Quaff Score 8 / 10

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange with an off white head and tart, fruity aroma. Taste is tart as well, nice fruit and brett notes with the oak and barrel aging flavors coming through into the oaky, sour finish. Delicious brew

375 ml bottle, 2013 Vintage, Batch 8. Served in a Prairie Teku glass, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with about a half inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both good enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like citrus peel, bready/grainy malt, oak, hay, green grapes, and some pear. I think the taste pretty much follows the aroma, but thereís also some tropical fruit and funky/mustiness noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís easy to drink and has a moderate amount of carbonation. Itís a good tart, fruity and funky brew! Iíve enjoyed the few Crooked Stave brews Iíve had a chance to try so far, and Iíll have to make a point to try more in the future! $8.99 a bottle.

A good bit more sour than Vieille, with a solid bit of minor orange-like sweetness and just a very solid tart saison all-around.
