4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 750ml Bottle. The pour was a hazy medium honey orange with an average sized (1-2 finger) white fizzy head that reduced quickly to a thin layer of foam that was left lying on top, thus producing some really nice sheets of lace.
The aroma had kind of funky odor to it and was of a straw like malt, a citrus hop and a barnyard scented yeast with notes of orange, tangerine, ripe peaches, apricot, a touch of oak and a mild tartness.
The taste was sweet and malty with a nice notes of orange, apricot and hints of citrus from the start, and had a strong yeasty sour finish with just a light hint of a woody fruit taste at the end. The flavor lasted a wonderfully long time allowing for the melding of flavors to relax on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was just a tad beyond light in body with a nice dry texture and a prickly carbonation.
Overall an exceptionally tasty and refreshing brew, one with a nice fruity sour flavor that most definitely left you wanting more.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Portland.
Pours a light copper with a modest and coarse very nearly white head. The aroma is all about the brett: leather and lemon, hint of baking whole wheat bread. It’s lovely but I’m close to only going 7 here because it just doesn’t have complexity we might hope for. Flavor is sweet-and-sour, but not sweet enough to detract from quaffability. A nice mellow funk mingling with lemon juice, plenty of wood, hint of pepper, but again so much about the brett. It’s absolutely delicious after a run and impossible to merely sip.

Medium to good, just yellowish & dense head, dwindling over fully hazy orange-ochre beer. Farmyard odours, citrus, lemonbalm, rainwater, wet dog, herbal, lactic acid. Actually very inviting AND convincing. Quite tart, acidic, acerbic, lemony and nearly astringent. Faint woody touch, quite fruiy too: citrus, wild fruit, unripe fruit (unripe strawberry and ditto plums). Quite complex and layered, not unidimensional. Faint herbal touch in the finish. Titillating carbonation, mouthpuckering acidity, very light - attenuated - body. USA brewers ape Dupont when the make saison - they never had the opportunity to try the ’others’. This one is no exception, but for the fact that it completely convinces me, and that’s no mean accomplishment. Great!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a cloudy light to medium orange. Small frothy white head, fairly lasting with some lace. Aroma is yeasty, brett, light fruity, light peppery, sour and woody, white wine. Flavor follows. Medium plus body. Pleasantly tart and sour, some funkiness, little dryness. All that and yet still so very easy drinking.

My Bottom Line:
Lemongrass-like spicy fruitiness pervades this Sour Ale’s dusty funk while soft effervescence provides high drinkability.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the misty gold.
-Souring bacteria don’t overwhelm drinkability, which I appreciate.
-Tartness levels are high enough to produce a little zing and moderate enough to make you want another sip quickly.
-This reminds me of some of Jolly Pumpkin’s best efforts.

Appearance is cloudy light golden with a minimal foam cap that fades quickly. Aroma is a funky mix of brett, barnyard, and apple. Taste is sweet, peppery malt with a biting tart acidity and brett character. Mouthfeel is light with low carbonation. Finishes with a refreshing, crisp, dry tartness that lingers on the tongue
