COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vieille meaning “Old” is our artisinal barrel-aged Saison, lightly dry hopped. Each batch release is a diverse blend of Vieille casks that have taken on a soft Brettanomyces character before being lightly dry hopped. Dominated by a floral, citrusy hop character, a subtle herbal note and a tart finish, Vieille’s character exemplifies artisan Saisons.

Fantastic orange and coriander flavor. Brett is not overwhelming however this is the way it should be. Very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle A: citrusy, green apple, light barnyard app: clear pale minimal white head t/p: thin body with medium long acidic finish. Moderate carbonation. Dry finish. O: a nice thirst quencher. Could picture myself drinking this by the pool on a hot summer day.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass; 2013 vintage bottling, Batch 8. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of lightly tart lemon, lime, pineapple, green apple, pear, white grape, pepper, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, light leather/oak, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy/funky yeast, pale malt, and light oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of lightly tart lemon, lime, pineapple, green apple, pear, white grape, pepper, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, light leather/oak, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity/earthy tartness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, pineapple, green apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy/funky yeast, pale malt, and light oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/spice/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from yeast spice and acidity. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly acidic/salty balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a damn nice oak aged saison style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light oak barrel flavors. And very smooth and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

375ml bottle from Parker Pie, 2014 batch 14. Aroma: citrusy, floral, hay, funky brett. App: hazy pale with small white head, good retention and good lacing. Taste and palate: light body, light lemon in mouth, light sweetness, light tart finish. Overall: great nose, great tartness. On the other hand the taste could be less light, more fruity but overall this is really good. Another success from this brewery.

December 31st, 2013 - New Year’s proceeds, on the heels of one Crooked Stave to the next, from St. Bretta to Vieille. The saison follows, light-to-light beer, glowing like a rural sunset, golden hour in a glass. The nose expresses a peppery nose and the bitterness of grapefruit pith, with a touch of dried flower. The flavor is as interesting, but more complex, with more direct sourness up front, and bitterness on the back. Effectively the most sour saison I’ve tried, with a refreshing, crisp wave of fruit near the end, featuring light and slightly underripe green melon. And while it has all these dashes of exotic flavors and spice market touches, there is still, underneath it all, that ineffable saison quality. It’s the blend of grains that speaks to a product of the dirt and field, and gives saisons that "rustic" quality. Mysterious, unfathomable, and art.
