3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle at Prohibition Pig, 3/15/14
Lovely pour, foamy white head tops a pale straw golden body showing high clarity and plentiful carbonation.
Dry, woody and with moderate brett suggestions in the nose that mix with the soft floral hoppiness. Aroma strength is high and no alcohol or flaws are noted. Almost a lactic-like suggestion, though it’s buried pretty deep beneath the nectarine-lime fruitiness that the brett presents. Black and white pepper phenols keep things quite dry.
The flavor is decidedly dry...exceedingly so with a high amount of carbonation and very, very low malt presence. The actual flavors are delicious; flowers, herbs, oak and light brett acids, contributing moderate amounts of fruitiness and light tartness. Unfortunately, the extreme attenuation level coupled with a rather high amount of barrel tannin leave the beer very astringent, while the lack of malt body and high carbonation lend a somewhat watery feel to it. Still, very drinkable due to its extremely light nature, just needs a little bit more maltiness to balance all of the dry aspects.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draught at Falling Rock. Slightly cloudy golden color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, citrus and yeast. Light-bodied with a funky brett character and flavors of citrus, yeast and grassy hops. The finish is funky with a bretty yeast aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Matkroken Natland, Bergen. Pours a hazy pale yellow body with a small white head. Nose is tart lemon peel and lactic acid up front, with wet grass, floral wheat tones and stable funk. Nice. Taste is mild straw and pale malt tones, tart lemon peel, lactic notes and horse blanket. Light body, bordering on watery, with medium carbonation. For a farmhouse saison this low in ABV, this sure is a nice one; very refreshing and accessible despite the near-sour profile.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bought at 2D2DSpuma in Barcelona. Very interesting beer! More of an herbal note than expected. Notes of mint, sharp fruit and funk carry through from aroma to flavor. Slightly tart with a nice dry finish and some bitterness balancing it out at the end. Really lovely beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Small, just yellowish head, fast gone over slightly veiled, well-carbonated orange-golden beer; Spicy lemony nose, hint at some coriander, Brettanomyces, farmyard. Dry, quite spicy; mouldy lemon, Bretts to the fore. Citrus mainly, but not really fruity. Bitter finish, short of metallic. Spritzy, refreshing, dry and eminently drinkable. Crooked Stave doing it again. A very convincing beer, that I don’t hesitate calling Saison for a second.

Taste is slightly fresh sour-ish, sorrel, oak, citrus, wet hay, citrus peel, mild brett, grass. Medium bitterness, slightly watery mouthfeel. Nice for being only 4,2% ABV.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle, sent by b3shine-- many thanks! Lemony yellow, lightly hazy, with a lasting foamy white head that leaves delicate lace. Aroma is deeply funky. I swirl the glass and the funk is thick, redolent of an August barnyard, cheese rind, and a bit of petroleum. A touch of buttermilk too. This is the most complex aroma I’ve encountered in a long while. The palate takes a 90-degree turn from the nose. It opens fresh and light, with tart lemon and green grape notes, moving into light vinegar sourness, ending with an earthy herbal note. Unbelievably complex and drinkable for a lower ABV beer. A new all-time favourite, perhaps the perfect summer every-day beer. Thanks again Beau!
