Vieille meaning “Old” is our artisinal barrel-aged Saison, lightly dry hopped. Each batch release is a diverse blend of Vieille casks that have taken on a soft Brettanomyces character before being lightly dry hopped. Dominated by a floral, citrusy hop character, a subtle herbal note and a tart finish, Vieille’s character exemplifies artisan Saisons.

Poured into a tulip. 3.75 A: Mildly hazed peach color. Two fingers of frothy white head. Retention is about average and about one finger of irregular lacing is left. 4.25 S: Big, bold nose on this. Really funky with all the barnyard aromas. Also musty basement, dry dusty wood, and some herbal notes. Lemongrass and apple. Dry with a grassy floweriness. Oak. 2.75 T: The taste isn’t nearly as good as the nose. First off, there’s a fairly strong tannic presence. Second, it’s much less funky and more tangy and tart. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn’t work that well in this one. Tart apple, oak, sharp tanginess. There’s still some of the funk mentioned above, but not a whole lot. Woody with astringency. 3.25 M: Lighter body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly spritzy. Astringent finish. 2.75 D: This would have been a lot better if it stayed out of the oak barrel. It picked up all the bad stuff in it. Serving type: bottle

Bottle - Batch 8. Gold in colour with spritzy carbonation. Strong brett and lemon rind aromas, along with cut grass and barnyard elements. Quite tart and citric upfront in the mouth, along with notes of oak, more cut grass and funky brett. Bone dry with a chalky mineral finish. Tasty and complex, but a little too much to be all that "refreshing".

Golden clear color. The smell is saison like (seems not very helpful, but with my limited capabilities of smelling, it’s the best I can do). The taste is salty and light sour. Herbal fresh aromas that are a little dry on the palate. Completed by a fitting lively fine carbonation. Finished by a dry but not tart aftertaste.

Bottle. Beermoth, Manchester. Hazy, greeny gold. Film, and halo, of tight, white head. Soft, damp, sweet, biscuit malts. Some Lemsip type, lemon spice. Some oily herb, sage and suchlike. Taste is dry, and gently sour. Palate is thin, and a little soapy. Finishes more of that. Smells fantastic. Tastes good. Unfortunately, after that it drops off a bit. Overall, it’s decent enough.

Flaska från SB. Smak och doft av citron, hö, gräs, brett, ladugård, äpple, vitt vin, med toner av funk, jord och vinäger. Viss syrlighet, torr, lagom sötma, lätt beska. Finstämd och uppfriskande!
