COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wild Wild Brett is a series of R&D beers created to showcase the versatility of Brettanomyces, a yeast found naturally all over the world. Historically considered ”wild yeast”, Brett is responsible for 100% of the fermentation in the bottle you hold. This first installment of the series, dubbed rouge, incorporates hawthorn berry, rose hips and whole hibiscus flowers in an unfiltered, slightly tart wild ale. Rouge pours a reddish hue delivering soft floral aromas and tropical fruit flavors with a tart earthy finish.

750 ml bottle shared by Aubrey Joe- thanks again, Joe! Glad to see you showing up on Tuesdays. Bottled 6/11, bottle 155/1600. Pours a hazy gold-orange with a small eggshell white head. Aroma of apricot, funky, musty brett, peach, sweet malts, candi sugar, and floral notes. Flavor of tart fruits, sweet malts, wood, dust, and lighter brett character than in the nose. Doesn’t really come together all that well. Medium-bodied, with a dry, grainy, tart mouthfeel and high carbonation. Interesting beer, and I’d be curious to try more from Crooked Stave without committing to their sales program.

Sample at the Vermont BA Winter Gathering - Poured a darkish orange in color with a medium off-white foamy head that disappated quickly. Aroma is that funky bretty sourness that I love. Some herbal notes with sour cherries. Flavor is yeasty funk with fruity bits of cherry and/or apple. Medium sour, I like it...

illidurit (1629) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - JAN 30, 2012
750 mL bottle shared at the January 2012 Santa Cruz tasting at Sante Adairius. Pours a dark orange color with a huge gushing off-white head. This one was hard to get a bead on. I got a maple syrup sweetness in the aroma along with a chlorinic brett character and a minor pine accent. Flavor was orangey, woody, not particularly flowery. Very dry in the finish. Alright, but pretty subdued.

750 that went ’Wild wild’ foam over once I opened it. Yes it was chilled, and no I didn’t clank it. Floral nose with some roasted cherry tomatoes. Medium ’rouge’ body with a fairly soft and balanced Brett presence. Quick finish.

750 ml bottle from adnielsen, I think. Or Doodler. Either way, that group of guys. Pours a rich copper amber pour, healthy ruby red glow, with a big frothy cakey offwhite head that laces very well. Aromas are rich bretty funk and touches of sour red fruit. Dry and funky, some good essence with some dust, horsblanket, gentle spice. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, offering some gentle berry, dryness, and healthy bretty funk. Lively carbonation makes it silky, with bready malts, some cheese, dust. Gentle sour berry, faint lemon up front offers some wild essence. Middle gets a bit bitter, more cheesy funk as I get in. Funky, dry. Berry gives a punch up front then dies out. Maybe a touch of sourness up front but gets dry quickly. Nice, lacks sour punch. Much different than Orange, much different than expected.

750ml thanks to Adam... Pours a reddish orangey brown hue with a creamy white head... Earthy basement bretty aromatics, dusty in nature with a almost a non-existent fruit quality. A touch of floralness but not much beyond that... Flavors are soft light grain and soapy with a mild to medium Brett influence. Muted and subdued. Enjoyed less than the tangelo variation of this line.

Bottle from Armin. HUGE gusher, wasn’t really expecting it after the last crooked stave barely made a hiss...Oh well. Pour is a very cloudy peachy color with light red. Aroma is floral, red flowers, slight brett funk, old must cement, light tartness. Taste is lots of brett funk, but in an unassuming way, not overpowering or blue cheesy at all. Overcarbonated. Not bad, but could use some age and a heck of a lot less carbonation.
