2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 3fourths (6400) - Boulder, USA - JAN 17, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2012 draft. scotch tape envelope glue fumes and band aid rubber with only light mixed generic spice and dry mango fruit. medium body turns thin late. dry with light must, light spice and just-noticeable mango, all dry and mild. brett comes across as old band-aids / skin. turmeric is mild but seems to work, which is a big surprise, but overall it’s a bit pale, thin and dull and doesn’t deserve it’s price at all.

750ml bottle purchased at Mondo Vino in Denver. pours a deep hazy golden with a 2+ finger white head. citrus, spice and barnyard nose - the Brett characters accompany the spices well. dry medium body with funk, citrus, coriander, mango, and spices throughout. very dry finish with a nice level of citrus tartness on the back end. really love the 100% Brett fermentation on this one.

750ml Bottle (Batch: 12/2011. Bottle: 1411/1488).: Got in trade, but I forget from whom; THANKS though! Aroma of Brett, fruit, slight mango, slight citrus, light barnyard, slight spices, coriander, turmeric, and a hint of tart fruit. Poured bright yellow/gold in color with a small, loose, white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of large-sized particles throughout. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, grain, light Brett, fruit, and spices. Light to medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Medium sweet, fruit, Brett, grain, spice finish.

Cloudy yellow pour. Fluffy white head. Lots of yeast, tropical fruit, tart fruit, and very light vinegar notes. Flavor is tart, juicy, barnyard notes, mango, yeast, bready notes...finishes with a light pucker.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 nightrider (707) - encinitas, California, USA - MAY 6, 2012
Pour from a bottle thanks to Aaron. Light golden in color with ample carbonation. Aromas are of the distinctive Brett funky earthiness with a bit of a sweet background. The flavors are varied with good complexity and not one overpowering the other. The Indian spices are subdued with the tumeric along side mango, honey, and citrus fruit. Overall pretty easy to drink with a smooth medium body. I liked this unique beer alot.

750 thanks to adnielsen. Tangy. Lemon. Citrus and tangerine. Honey. Not a wild nose to this one. But puckering for sure. Nice.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 wchesser (338) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 19, 2012
Bottle 597/1488 from 12/2011 drank in April, 2012. Medium fast fading head and minor lacing. Nice bright yellow...cloudy yeasty pour at the end. Nose starts out spicy with some earthy funk but becomes big lemony citrus with warmth and time. Huge lemon citrus flavors with tart and warm finishing spice from the tumeric presumably. Like a spicy, super citrusy saison....actually, maybe more like a gueze without the minerality.
Mango and honey aren’t really apparent. Very pleasantly surprised by this beer-this could have been a mess. Went great with grilled chicken kabobs marinated in Bulgarian yogurt, mint, curry, and garlic. Want to get some more and lay it down.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rustyham (1396) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - APR 15, 2012
Body is cloudy with sustainable head. Aroma of poppy seed and honey. Flavor is nice but subtle honey and some black pepper and saffron. Smooth easy drinking
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thorpe429 (3824) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 9, 2012
Huge thanks to fortsambo for sending a bottle of this out my way. Served in a SAVOR glass.
Pours a clear golden-yellow color with a nice white head. Good retention and a few rings of lace on the way down.
The nose has a good mixture of spice, citrus, mango, and a faint earthiness. Good complexity through the cool-to-warm cycle, with the emphasis changing during that time.
Flavor was a really nice display of fruit and Brett. Hops were there contributing to the mango, and a bit of earth and hay carried through on the back end. Medium body with good carbonation and a bitter, dry finish.
Like nearly all the other Crooked Stave brews I’ve had, I was a pretty big fan of this one.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 crossovert (2781) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 19, 2012
750ml bottle.
It pours a hazy orangeish gold with a foamy white head that doesn’t leave too much lacing. More and more floaties in secondary pours.
The smell of this one is great. Nice mango, some "honey" (sugar), lemon, turmeric, and coriander. Of course the brett is there but not as up front as I was expecting.
The flavor is pretty nice. I feel like brett+mango+tumeric is a pretty obvious combo. The flavors, as expected, work nicely here. The honey doesn’t add a huge amount of sweetness actually, the flavor is rather spicy and fruity but not too sweet. It is extremely refreshing.
Next up Asafoetida+brett?
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 misterb303 (1) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 13, 2012 does not count
Bottle. Really loved this brew. Chad Yacobson @ Crooked Stave once again demonstrates the diversity of brettanomyces with this highly unique expression. Never have I experienced a brew with a dominating flavor of turmeric. So F’in cool. Is this one of the best beers I’ve tasted? No. But I absolutely loved it. Spices, mango and turmeric show up clearly on the nose, with a well-balanced palate- I love how the brett bridges the spices and tropical fruits behind the turmeric punch. Crooked Stave is showing how much more brett beer can be, and this is just the beginning... Dude’s got a degree in brettanomyces...How cool is that?!?! As impressed as I’ve been with Crooked Stave thus far, I believe it’s only gonna get better!
