Our very first brew and still our most popular cask beer. A classic bitter providing a balanced hoppy flavour with a malty aftertaste.

Cask. Amber colour with a small slightly off-white head. Aroma is nutty, wooden, mildly resiny as well as some toffeeish and sweet malty notes. Flavour is rather similar in a very easy to drink way. Yet quite bodied, for being only 4 %.

tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - NOV 25, 2011
First tasted this in the Mossend, Lochwinnoch in July 1994. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear oale garnet red in colour with a thin white head. Mixture of sweet malt and floral hop in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit base with a touch of caramel sweetness. Dry floral hop resins give a dusty bitterness to the aftertaste. Thin malty note in the short finish. An ok session bitter but lacking in depth and complexity to be honest.

Bottle-conditioned, 500ml, pours brown with a thin lacy head and a little biscuit, dry grass and caramel on the nose. A good straightforward bitter, with some hops and more biscuity dry malt coming through, along with a faint hint of pine.

Bottle Conditioned. Pours a medium amber brown body with good tight white head. Full aroma of malts and robust hops. Flavour is well balanced between the full malts with touches of caramel and toffee and the firm full flavoured crisp hops. Aftertaste allows the sweeter malts to come through the drying hops.

A very creamy coloured head. slightly cloudy to look at. All yeast sediment in bottom of glass. At first taste it had a very liquorice taste which went away.

Bottle: OK, well. Drinkable with a nice, British bitterness. I just found this thin and lacking really. Sweet and cereally but it has no depth to speak of. Not really bothered and found it a touch too fizzy.

Cask conditioned - handpump - New Inn, Cropton. A golden coloured beer with a tight white head and lacing. The aroma is slightly hoppy, but the hops in the mouth are better. Orange fruits. Clean, citric and drinkable.
