COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Rock Stout is a dark and robust full-bodied foreign-style stout bursting with flavor. Roasted barley and chocolate malt combine with sweet and fruity fermentation flavors to create the rich body of this full flavored brew. American hops help balance the robust malt flavor, and the high alcohol content adds a touch of sweetness and a warming sensation on the palate. This beer is perfect for warming up on a cold dreary day! Overall look for a thick tan head atop a jet black brew with rich roast & chocolate notes, a bit of sweetness and a bit of kick from the high alcohol content. This ale is certainly not for the faint of heart!

In short: A superior roasted stout marred by excessive carbonation
How: Tap at Tap-NY 2012
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is typical roasted coffee beans with some herbal notes. Taste has the basic elements I hope to get in a non-fruity roasted stout. Roasted coffee beans, burnt toasts, some bitter black chocolate, light vanilla notes. Then there’s a decent amount of herbal hops. Almost everything was perfect in this beer, almost. Unfortunately the batch I tried was marred by an excessive carbonation and almost had a soda-pop mouthfeel. This added a bit of astringency. With a proper carbonation to make this beer creamy I suspect this could be a seriously kick-ass stout. Hopefully will try again. I’d hate to be Black Rock, and have to come home and explain to my kids how I got beat by white Paper.

Now this is a beer. Deep dark murky brown, tan silk head with retention and lacing. Roast and chocolate nose. Big malty body feature roast, chocolate, light smoke. Hops and bitterness are they but don't interrupt the malt explosion. Nice.

A deep dark brown stout with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, nice coffee grinds predominates, light bitter chocolate, faintly nutty. In mouth, rich chocolate and coffee, grassy notes, nice and smooth, well done. On tap at Barcade Brooklyn, Dec. 30 2011.

What an amazing stout! Chocolate/espresso taste. Crossroads is an amazing new brewery and I love living only a few minutes away. Nothing like grabbing a growler on a Friday night.

On tap at the Brewpub. Dark sweet malt with a modicum of hop. A long lasting body. Easily consumable. Sweet long finish. Hutch, keep this one coming.

A - Pours a dark black color with some brown hints coming in around the edges with a finger of brown head. The head fades slowly down to a thin ring around the glass leaving behind some lacing. S - Aroma is full of coasted caramel and chocolate aromas. Also just a touch of coffee and some earthy aromas as well. T - Starts off with lots of roasted slightly burnt caramel and chocolate malt flavor. Through the middle some coffee and stronger burnt flavors come through with just a touch of milk sweetness. The finish is a mix of roasted sweet caramel flavors and chocolate flavors that linger. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and a bit creamy. The lingering flavor is nice and roasty with some nice sweet notes. D - Very drinkable. Nice balance of roasted and sweet flavors. The chocolate flavors mix in really nice with the sweeter malts. There is also just a touch of milk sweetness that blends nicely.

Bought from their tasting room. Very nice. Roasty-ness comes through most strongly, but the flavor is good, looks are pleasant, and is overall an enjoyable experience.
