3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ungstrup (23961) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 29, 2005
[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] A hazy orange beer with a light orange head. The aroma is lovely hoppy with hints of caramel and elderberryflowers. The flavor is sweet and flowery with the hops tickling the tongue and leading to a dry and very hoppy end. But the body is thin, which is a drawback in the total picture.

Cask. Golden colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruity hops and some caramel. Flavour is very pleasantly fruits and hops, all in a very good balance. Some slight grassyness in the aftertaste.

Cask. Flowery aroma, reminding me of elderflower. Dark copper colour. Nicely hoppy flavour. OK bitterness. Quite flat, even for a cask ale.

Cask handpull at Magpie & Crown, Brentford. Golden. Rally lovely hop aroma, lovely fruit including grapefruit. Really good Crouch Vale beer. Lovely hop on end too. Some fruit and malt in it that have got real juiciness. Good beer

Cask conditioned at The Wellington, Birmingham. Orange Gold with white head. Good sulphery nose, nice and juicy leading to a richer than CV’s usual malty body. Fruity and zesty, nicely sharp hops, quite dry with a long, long bitter finish. This brewery certainly knows how to tick the right boxes.

Unusually for a Crouch Vale beer, I struggled to find too much to say about this one. Not big on hops, or on malt, but the balance is right in an understated sort of way. Easy-drinking just about says it all. And I don’t mean that as a criticism - just that the overall effect is more than the sum of the parts. Cask (gravity dispense), Reading Beer Festival 2005.

Cask (Helsinki Beer Festival 2004)
Rich orange, tiny head. Crisp fresh citrussy hops. Sweet malty body, slightly maizy or candiflossy. Refreshing brew.

Cask Conditioned at the Oddington Arms, Oxfordshire for the Rugby World Cup Semi-Final 13-10-07 the third time that this wonderful little pub/stone shed has opened this year Dark amber in colour with nice white bubbly head. Lovely vibrant hoppy aroma, wonderful fresh and fruity taste with nice hops throughout, they’re right about easy drinking, I certainly exceeded sensible drinking levels on this little gem from Crouch Vale.

Brought to my work via a plastic carton. Aroma has crouch vale American hops written all over it super citrusy grassy hops. Taste has some pale malt/caramalt through the intence hop attack on the tougue. I suppose the caramalt is what adds the depth and colour but its essentially the brewers gold which is a very good thing.
