With another ’world-wide’ shortage of American hops staring us in the face, we looked closer to home and experimented with an (unkown to us) Australian hop called Galaxy. The resulting IPA is BIG on hops, deliciously fruity.

Bottle from Plonk. Clear orange/gold, grapefruit/citrus aroma, solid malt profile, resiney/piney bitterness. Great.

I’m not familiar enough with Galaxy hops to know *exactly* what they are like, but this beer has a most foul aroma that seems hop-derived rather than the result of fermentation problems... still I hesitate to say the foul smell and flavor is due to Galaxy but I don’t know what else I can attribute it to. It smells and tastes like dryer sheets, rotten onions and cheese, good god. Fake freshy flower stuff and stinky brie, ugh. Soft body with silky carbonation and bright acids, that’s the high point. The low point is the rotting cheese, onion and peanut oil flavor. Yes, peanuts. Burnt peanuts. Ugh, this may be my new "least favorite hop" overtaking Mosaic. Clear pale amber. From 500ml bottle.

The head is good, The body orange-red. It smells fruit, aromatic, bit malty. The taste is hoparomatic, less malty fruity, bit bitter, bit flowery, nice! 13/12/12/12/-/12

Light golden colour with a typical floral, citrus aroma. Flavour profile is a harsh bitterness that lacks complexity of a good hop blend and is not well enough balanced by the malt. Dominant flavours of pine resin. Galaxy is perhaps not an ideal solo hop.

Big on hop! Maybe too big. Almost an imperial or iipa. Aroma of sweet pine and grass. The malt barely cuts through the massive hop flavor. Not overly bitter just too hopy for me. Sometimes less is more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours pale amber with a large, lasting head. Nose shows pine, resinous hops, pear and some soft sweet clean malt. Similar flavours. Pine, resin, spicy hops. Very little malt. Carbonation seems a little high. Not bad, although not what I’d expect from galaxy.

Pours a super light golden amber. Thin white head that dissapates quickly. Smell is floral hops with some buttery citrus. Medium mouthfeel with some nice hops and plenty of bitterness.

Light golden colour. Huge citrus marmalade aroma. Bitter hop flavour with grape fruit and apricots. Long lingering hop mouthfeel.

Bottle from K&G. Nice and hoppy. Aromas of mandarin, grass. Taste starts sweet, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Orange, with a thin head.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2015 An excellent single hop (Australian) IPA. Nicely balanced and not as strong as others of the style - which can be an advantage at the end of an extended tasting session. A beer I hope to have many more of in future.
