3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a crystal clear gold with short lasting bright white head. Big tropical fruit aroma as the bottle opened. As the beer sits in the glass a more traditional sharp, spicy character shows through along with some grainy pilsner malt. Tropical fruit flavours merge seamlessly into malty sweetness before taking a right turn into a crisp bitterness. The finish turns back on track with a smooth sweetness that lingers along with a refined bitterness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours amber with a small head.
Nose shows floral hops, soft peach blossom and a little orange peel alongside grainy, bready malt. Pretty much a Czech pilsner with new world hops.
Flavours pretty much mirror the aroma. Spicy, floral hops followed by light grainy malt and an assertive bitterness.

Limpid in appearance, citrous nose, good mouthfeel and drinkability. Could use more lift on the palate.

On tap @ Brew Craft Beer Pub, Rotorua. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma is flowery. Clear, golden coloured beer with a thin, white head. The taste is very fresh hoppy, flowery, bit citric. Clean mouthfeel. Very good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg - Brew, Tauranga. Poured a hazy golden amber with a small, lasting and lacing loose white head. Aromas of pine, grapefruit, grain and a note slightly vegetal but predominantly crisp, fresh and bright with some biscuit and toasty malt in a support role. Medium body with good palate effervescence, a firm, balanced mid-palate and a crisp, dry citrus hop bitterness with endurance. A balanced but distinctly hop-forward Kiwi take on the traditional pils style though on the bitter side and a touch weighty for a ítrueí pils in terms of outward character(s) at least.

1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20
Taster at the Craft Beer Bar in Rotorua. Iím glad I was not the only one that had a problem with the aroma: boiled tripe with cabbage. Very umpleasant. Nothing of a Pilsner on aroma or flavour. I did not like it at all - and it has nothing to do with the fact that I missed their Chocolate Cherry Porter...

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2014 A combination of foul-smelling Matueka and Riwaka hops with abrasive malt roughness and fizzy carbonation, itís difficult enough to smell let along drink. But itís foul because of the hops, not because of any fault or flaw... itís this vegetable root bubble gum and diesel fuel quality that I canít wrap my head around. These Matueka hops are sexy and the American drinkers are reportedly falling in love, but itís the same foulness found in Citra and Mosaic that is an instant turn off for me. Sharply acidic with underlying syrupiness, the pale malt has an over-kilned / burnt grain quality. Dry, bitter, medium to light body, very un-Pilsner like and a shame that these hops are being featured over the more elegant and nuanced variants like Pacifica and Wakatu. Itís rare that I give a 4 for aroma without any overt flaws, but these hops are so off-putting and foul-smelling that I have to.
