COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Croucher PATRIOT is an American Black Ale. It is black in colour but without the dark flavours usually associated with black beers like Porters or Stouts. It is chock full of American Amarillo and Simcoe hops. Very hoppy on the nose, with a delicious fruity flavour, with guava and passionfruit present.

500 ml bottle. Clear ruby hued deep dark brown, lasting tan foam. Aroma is caramel malt and citrus hop. Darker roasted charred caramel malt taste, citrus floral hop, hints of evergreen and licorice. Softer than average carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

A very dark beer with an interesting burnt hoppy aroma. Has the American citrus hops flavour that might be expected of a black IPA, but quite easy to drink, even refreshing.

The head is robust, the body black. It smells maltaromatic, hoppy intensive, a bit roasty. The taste is maltaromatic, roasty, hoppy, bitter, coffee-bitter, hoparomatic, bit creamy, very nice and delicious! special for just 5.5% 4.1

Tap @ the taphouse sydney. Wonderful beer. Great example of one of my favourite styles. Very dark brown with small, off white head and good lacing. Lovely aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruits, pine and toasty malt. Citrus and pine flavours dominate, however there is a perfectly integration of roasted malts and a touch of cocoa. Great resiny ipa mouthfeel.

Draught - O’Carrolls Treehouse, Auckland. I must confess that I was somewhat perplexed when I came here to add my notes and found it listed as a black IPA. For me, this beer is all about the dark malts, the coffee and roasted malts in particular. There are subtle citrus hop notes but they are decidedly in the minority on this occasion. Medium body, soft carbonation, a rounded mouthful and an enduring coffee malt finish coupled, again delicately, with a citrus undertone. A fine and fading beige head leaving a soapy lace atop an opaque brown - near black - body. Really good stuff irrespective of style.
