COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Croucher PATRIOT is an American Black Ale. It is black in colour but without the dark flavours usually associated with black beers like Porters or Stouts. It is chock full of American Amarillo and Simcoe hops. Very hoppy on the nose, with a delicious fruity flavour, with guava and passionfruit present.

Pours a clear dark brown color with a big frothy light brown head. Aroma is a big citrus burst with fruity tropical fruit esthers like passion fruit and guava. Taste is citrus hops with much of the same tropical fruit flavors and some roasted malts in the background. Not really a black ipa, needs more of the porter aspects to give it more body otherwise this just seems like a sessionable dark hoppy beer.

Pours dark chestnutbrown with foamy coloured head, strong orangey simcoe with chocolate, grapefruit and cocoa on the nose. Medium carbonation, with initial malt sweetness seugueing into pithy citrus and some lemon cheesecake notes. Touch of coffee and dark malt astringency in finish, otherwise passes the blindfold test.

A pretty solid black IPA. Some fruity hoppy nose, some tropical fruits and a bit of coffee and roast malt. A little smokiness and some coffee with a nice fruity hop bite. Thin body. Very solid.

(500ml bottle) Purchased at vintage Liquors for $10. Pours a quick dissipating frothy white head atop a black body. Nose of PNW hops. Hops are much more pronounced in the front of the palate than Phillips, a tad thin but good malt and bitterness flavour through the finish. Yummy. --- reviewed on RateBeer.com

500 ml bottle. Pours black with light head. Aromas of spruce and dark, sour over-ripe fruit. Maybe a hint of chocolate. Definitely American hoppy flavors, grapefruit and pine, but lacking in malt to balance. Nice but not great.

Like the label says, it is black. Little bit of dark chocolate brown highlights the dark liquid. Catch the hops on the nose but not a lot else. Nice mouth feel and great balance.

This looks great, smells fantastic but still lacks a little something. Still very nice Black IPA, and in keeping with the style.

From a 500ml bottle on 2/10/2012. Pours a dark amber with a small head. Has a moderate fruity, hoppy aroma with just a hint of chocolate. The flavour more full on with an interesting mix of roasty, resiny bitteress, set off against some sweet citrus fruit and touch of toffee. The carbonation is typical of an IPA. All in all, an enjoyable, high quality black IPA.

Bottle, shared with Grippitis and Parksy. Iíll begin by saying that never in my biggest hopes did I imagine finding such delightful kiwi microbreweries such as this one, here in little Medicine Hat! I had Croucher beers while living in New Zealand, and Iím so pleased that they have met such success to be able to offer their products around the world. This poured a dark chestnut brown with a tan head. Aroma surprised us all... by not being very appetizing. It was dominated by barnyard and pig manure notes, some wet compost. Pretty gross really. The flavours were much better, nice roast malt and soft tropical fruit hops. Moderately bitter finish. interesting brew.
