COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Croucher PATRIOT is an American Black Ale. It is black in colour but without the dark flavours usually associated with black beers like Porters or Stouts. It is chock full of American Amarillo and Simcoe hops. Very hoppy on the nose, with a delicious fruity flavour, with guava and passionfruit present.

Really like this style of beer so found this beer really enjoyable. Nice dark almost pure black pour, slight tan head. Nice floral hops with a nice amount of bitterness dominate the palate. Nothing over the top just a nice beer.

Very dark brown red in colour with an open tan head. Hoppy aromas of citrus, pine passionfruit and roasted grains. Pleasant enough in taste but a little thin in body.

Pours black with a fluffy light tan head. Nose is tropical fruit juice. Mango, pineapple, passionfruti, guava. Also some roasted malt aromas, coffee, dark chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, charcoal, ash, a little bit of tropical fruit, mango, passionfruit, pineapple. Finish is dark and roasty, coffee, charcoal, a little orange. Medium body, but not overbearing. Nice black IPA, love the blend of flavors. For me this is really well balanced between the malt and the hop flavors, but with a really interesting hop profile that lends interest and tastiness.

Schizophrenic aroma, one minute the orangey simcoe dominates (yum) next sniff itís all musty carpet. As it warms, though, the musty carpet is uplifted leaving only the orange and slight caramel. At first, I thought this beer was a bit uninspiring, but once it had been open for a while, it really came into its own. Lesson: drink the whole bottle by yourself.

Tap @ the taphouse sydney. Wonderful beer. Great example of one of my favourite styles. Very dark brown with small, off white head and good lacing. Lovely aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruits, pine and toasty malt. Citrus and pine flavours dominate, however there is a perfectly integration of roasted malts and a touch of cocoa. Great resiny ipa mouthfeel.

This looks great, smells fantastic but still lacks a little something. Still very nice Black IPA, and in keeping with the style.

Amazing bouquet of malts and hops makes you think this will be a big beer. But you will be surprised how refreshing this beer is for a black beer. Well done!

Pours a dark black colour with a creamy strong head. Tastes like a ipa and is very thick but very refreshing. Overall a very nice beer and a nice surprise. Good one to have after a long day.

on tap at Hashigo Zake sort of zippy, very dark, big head (dies fast) and nice lacing. Not a lot of nose off the top but it gets interesting when you stick you gob into it - thatís the hard thing about nose and taste, they oft seem to be the same thing. Lightly coffeed and chocolated. A bit toasty? The hops are not really prominent. Wait, there they are. I would say spruce and grapefruit - not overwhelming but . . . yea. [] OK. Now, this New Zealand predilection for assigning wild fruit tastes -" we are in the South Pacific so it must have the regional flavours" - but guava and passion fruit? Pah-leeeez. They are native to South and Central America. OK. Maybe calling it íAmericaní is a just wee stretch but it ainít there. [I will buy some on the way home tonight and reacquaint myself.] Not sure why they insist it is an "American " whats-it and the ascribe very non-regional tastes. MEANWHILE: It is bitter and very full bodied - no hint of anything sweet - but it is all relative.[] This side of full bodied. Tad bit creamy-ish and maybe sticky. Nicely carbonated, and finishes a bit astringently. I like it. Would buy it again. Just donít believe the label with al your heart
