3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Plenty of hop aroma but the caramel malt knocks this off balance. Flavor is sweet and finish is too. Better balance would make this a better beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at GABF - specifically sought this one out to knock out SD from my States list. Golden pour. Orangey hops flavor with some resinous qualities. sweet malt backing. Nothing special, but solid.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at GABF. I was wondering what was going on in South Dakota and this beer was a pleasant surprise. I got a few samples of this early to be sure, and yeah, itís pretty darn good. The aroma has resinous pine and citrus cutting through the significant malt presence. The palate is sticky in a good way. It enhances the evergreen notes well. The hopping is aggressive and pretty clean. Bitter flavors cut through, leaving a drying finish. A good potent IPA.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can. Copper pour with white head. Smells of malt and hops. Not that hoppy for an ipa. Not bad but could have used for hop flavor.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at Independent Ale House. Pours light golden orange with small white head. Aromas of caramel malts, pine, and a little grapefruit. Flavors light hop bitterness, pine and grapefruit hop notes, and pale malts. Little too malt heavy. Average at best IPA.

Draft at brewpub. Pours light orange with a white head. Slight pine on the nose. Bigger, leafi hop flavor on the tongue. Finishes fairly clean. Solid example of style. Itís not spectacular but it is drinkable.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
I wish I could review this beer higher than I am. I got this one in Spearfish, SD, while on a fishing trip with my brothers. Awful. I had been wanting something local, and South Dakota is not known for its thriving microbrew economy (why not???), so if anyone out there is looking for the next place to get a microbeer going and want a climate of outdoorsy/hard-working people, go to Black Hill, SD. Not much going on there at all, this beer is evidence of that.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Canned. Clear reddish-orange with a small white head. Pine and grapefruit aroma with a solid malted milk backbone isnít overly pungent but still pleasant. Bitter flavor that grows throughout the flavor profile is fairly straightforward (grapefruit rind and leather), ending with a bit of dried grass and herbal hops. A touch thin on the palate, but not overly so. Feels a bit more like an American Pale Ale than an IPA to me. My first beer from South Dakota. Thanks to my father for seeking this out for me while he and my mom were visiting the state.
