3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
can from Happy Harryís in Grand Forks pours black with a very thin tan head. Aroma is cocoa powder, molasses and roast. Flavor is roast, thin smoke, a little fruitiness Iím guessing is coming from the yeast and a bit of bitter cocoa in the finish. Overall itís very drinkable for a 7 percent porter but the finish is a little harsh.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
12oz can pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, an all around earthy sweetness. Taste similar to aroma minus sweetness replaced by a muddy bitterness. Malts seem over roasted. Hop bitterness is really off putting in this Porter. Pretty lacking all around, yeah pile-o-dirt forsure.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Draught at GABF) clearish dark brown with dark tan bubbled head. Nose of coffee, nutty, sweet fudge, vanilla, and graham cracker. Smells excellent! Taste is acrid however. Bitter, earthy (like a pile oí dirt!) dry cocoa, and burnt a bit as well. Creamy, medium thick body and dry finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown bordering black with a latte head that starts at about 1/4 inch and ends in a small ring surrounding the glass. Nondescript nose of roasted malt. Flavor is cocoa, brown sugar, and caramel. Thin mouthfeel. Meh.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2013 Black Hills Beer Fest - Dark brown pour with a small tan head. Smooth aroma of chocolate and espresso. Very roasty taste with light bitters. Semi-dry and some sweets, but mostly roasty. Ok. **re-rate** Picked up a sixer and gave this another go. Has the good roasted malts I remember from this rating, but the chocolate malt was more prevalent and balanced out the flavor. Decent body and refreshing.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at the 2007 GABF: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of faintly sweet dark malts and some graininess. Body is somewhat thin with only a touch of earthy malty sweetness toward a pretty bland finish. Drinkable, but dull.
