COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for the ridiculous 4 foot dirt pile we had to put our brewery on to get us out of the FEMA-designated 100 year floodplain (no-one can remember this part of Spearfish ever flooding). This robust porter is black in color, is medium-bodied and has a rich, roasted malt flavor ending with a pleasing hop flavor and mild hop bitterness.

Pours a thin black. Hints of roasted grains, dark chocolate and vanilla. Predominant roasted malt flavours. A bit of dark chocolate here and there. Slightly sour finish. Nice porter.

Big thanks to Brian for the can/South Dakota tick! Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with a bit of a salty meat note and a bit of sweet dark grains. Flavor has a good amount of roasted malts up front with a hint of smoke and a decent amount of sweet dark grains.

Can’t see through a glass of this beer, tis so dark with a light brown head. A sweet chocolate aroma and tastes a mild chococoffee with a soft lingering after effect of hops. The name fits it well.

@ Oskar Blues Burning Can Fest 2012. Black with a creamy khaki head. Nice aroma of grainy black malts and smooth chocolate with small touches of caramel and coffee. Taste was clean and dark and sweet, though not too sweet. Dark sweet and roasty with some light cocoa tones and some earthy caramel. Balanced with a small leafy bitterness.

Dark brew with a little coffee and chocolate taste. Nice aroma and a little sweet. Not much head at all on this one. I think your friends who don’t care for dark beers would enjoy this Pile o Dirt!

On tap at Brownstone. Probably not the best order to drink this beer in, but it tasted and felt like it was watered down.

Roasted coffee nose. Smells like my mash-tun with some raw malt...last time I brewed a year ago... A nice lil porter but maybe a little fine tuning needed?

Skyview V, 11/11/11. Not much going on here. Black. Lightly sweet malt, and some lactose. Dry, grain finish.

Can from patmycan. Thanks!
So concludes my US ticks for each state. Pours a deep, thick black with light carbonation and a thick olive-green head. Nose is light roasted nuts in a bed of coffee grounds. Flavor is coffee grounds with a light dusting of cocoa and roasted nuts. Average mouthfeel. Pretty good beer.
