Named for the ridiculous 4 foot dirt pile we had to put our brewery on to get us out of the FEMA-designated 100 year floodplain (no-one can remember this part of Spearfish ever flooding). This robust porter is black in color, is medium-bodied and has a rich, roasted malt flavor ending with a pleasing hop flavor and mild hop bitterness.

Can. Dark pour with light tan head. Smells of toasted malts and slight hops. Tastes of coffee/dark chocolate on the front with a slight hop finish. Nice porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Canned. Black with a medium-sized and frothy light brown head. Dusty cocoa nose with mild anise, light-roast coffee and earth. Bittersweet chocolate flavor with earthy grains, nutty, dried wheat and a moderate coffee roast and herbal hop zest finishing it up. Fairly light carbonation with a slightly thin mouthfeel, but that’s about the only minor tick against this. Thanks to my dad for seeking out and bringing me back this from South Dakota. The Dakotas should be happy to have this solid locally-made porter available in their states.

Can from unknown via Darton. Pours a fairly dark brown, some small bit of head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is nice, round and roasty, quite appealing. Body roasty with a slight smoke/hops/earth undertone to to the finish at first, which does become a bit sweeter. Well done.

12 ounce can courtesy of queenholly. Thanks! Pours a rich dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of cocoa, mild roast and nuts and a faint hoppiness. The taste is roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, mild hops. Medium bodied. Decent.

On draught at the brewery. Arrived black with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light lace. Very pleasant aroma of cocoa and light roast. The flavor is similar with cocoa and mild roast. Well rounded mouthfeel. Mild bitterness at the finish. Very solid porter.
