Named for the ridiculous 4 foot dirt pile we had to put our brewery on to get us out of the FEMA-designated 100 year floodplain (no-one can remember this part of Spearfish ever flooding). This robust porter is black in color, is medium-bodied and has a rich, roasted malt flavor ending with a pleasing hop flavor and mild hop bitterness.

12 oz. can courtesy of Queenholly. Thanks much for helping me with South Dakota. Dark brown liquid with small tan head. Aroma is light coffee, hints of chocolate and a light Earthy “dirt” aroma. Flavor is much the same with a chalky, dry ash texture on the palate. I would like to see just a little more body as it’s a bit thin. This could be a session porter if you can get your hands on more than one can. Nicely drinkable.

Poured from a can thanks to Bytemesis. Thanks!. Pours a darker, murky black with a thin greyish head of foam. Aroma is floral chocolate and coffee. Smells bitter and earthy. Taste is bitter at first, but mellows out to a nice sweetness. Nice well balanced finish.

Draft sample. Black in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of roasted malt, dark chocolate, red grape, and a bit of caramel. More of that vineous and chocolate combo in the mouth, with a bit of a coffee note coming into play as well. Medium bodied with a slightly ashy finish. A well made classic interpretation.
