COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(American Style IPA) - This deep gold colored brew has a strong citrus-like flowery hop aroma. The intense hop bitterness and flavor is backed by medium maltiness and body. Our IPA is hopped seven times during the boil with Summit, Centenial, lots of Cascade hops and dry-hopped (adding hops directly to the beer post-fermentation) for additional character. Special Force Ale is left unfiltered to lock all the hop freshness.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating, but was purchased recently. Pours slightly hazy reddish orange color with a nice 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, grapefruit, orange zest, mango, pineapple, toast, bread, slight pine, floral, grass, and light herbal spiciness. Nice and pleasant aromas with a good balance of malt/hop aromas. Taste of caramel, grapefruit, orange, pine, bread, light mango, pineapple, floral, grass, bread, toast, and herbal spiciness. Fair amount of herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, citrus, pine, grass, floral, tropical fruits, toast, bread, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a bit. Good complexity of hop flavors and very balanced between bitterness/sweetness; with almost zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice IPA. Some nice hop flavor complexity with a very balanced malt backbone; and very smooth to drink. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Sample at DLD 2013. Mostly clear amber color. Thin off-white head, decent retention, decent lace. Good smooth lighter crisp carbonation, more dry texture. Moderate light caramel malt, light spicy hop. Good bitter. Minimal sweet. Solid IPA.

Draft. Orange and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet orange malt and moderately bitter orange peel. Solid but nothing surprising.

cloudy with a thick foamy head, smooth enough. Not a big California style but a good amount of aromatic hops. Clean bitter finish. Golden color and cloudy.

This draft brew from a beer festival poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a uncarbonated transparent orange brown colored body and a good lacing. The aroma was hoppy. The off-tasting mouth feel was tingly at the start with a mellow finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of hops. An OK brew just nothing special.

tap at Brewhaven festival - Pours hazy amber and has a grapefruit hop aroma. There’s a big citrus hop flavor that’s balanced by a solid malt profile. Medium bodied with a crisp, bitter finish, it’s a good IPA.

Draft at Crown. Pours a deep gold near copper with an offwhite head that persists. Nose is pretty dank and citrusy overall with some faint caramel. Hop forward but a bit distracting with the caramel. On tasting, starts quite balanced in favor of the hops. Strong bitterness, very citrusy and fresh but the caramel creeps in and starts to drag it down. Less caramel would make this killer. As it stands, okay.

Tasted in October 2011 from a bottle shared by Mark, big thanks. Pours clear amber with an average off-white head that slowly recedes to thin bubbly lace. The nose is floral hops, chewable kids vitamins, and some caramel brad malt. The flavor is extremely bitter resin hops with some floral notes, and a bread malt backbone. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long bitter resin hops finish.

Thanks to Paul for bringing the growler! Poured hazy medium amber with a short-lived beige head. The aroma picked up orange, earth, and dank floral hops over sweet caramel and lesser bready malt.. almost like some sort of citrus juice on the back. The flavor found caramel and a touch of molasses on the sweet core.. orange and dank floral bitterness around.. bitter on the finish, but with not a whole lot of direction to it. Medium-bodied and grainy on the palate.. moderate-plus bitterness.. OK overall.
