Cask handpull, The Hillsborough Hotel, Sheffield- A Beer For Every Year Crawl. Dark ruby with a dense foamy tan head. Good earthy, toasty aroma dusting with coal and coffee. Excellent balance of orange tangy hop running under charcoal and coffee dregs. Hopped-up, tasty, savoury mild- certainly in the top 5 beers of the day.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Seumas (6) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 10, 2009 does not count
Comes across as more of a light porter than a dark mild. An ale not damaged by being pushed through a tight sparkler. Served on cask at the Hillsborough Hotel.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2005 RE-RATE: hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Rounded, sguary taste, with some choc pudding. Overt malt finish, with an almost sour feel. Not so smooth as the other Mild sampled tonight and a little more bitter. Just above average and better than last time sampled [7/6/05]
Gravity at Reading Beer Fest, with Kook, Duff, Chris_o and Joeh. Dark beer, no head. Eggy aroma. Some sweet roast, but mixed in with the sulphury badness. Shows promise, but loses out cos of bad condition. [2/5/05 - 2.6]
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 1, 2005
Roasty aroma, with maybe a hint of coffee. Deep brown colour - not quite opaque. It had that ashy mouthfeel that I noted in a number of the milds at this festival. OK, but unexciting. Cask (gravity dispense), Reading Beer Festival 2005.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 kook (2033) - Perth, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA - MAY 1, 2005
Ashy tar aroma. Black in colour. Roaste taste, a bit tart too. Chalky mouthfeel. Drinkable but not great.
