Great Aroma! A nice rich dark color. The beer had a nice combination of flavors. It starts off with a tart almost lambic like flavor. It then has a rich nutty, and fruity taste. It has a rich buttery taste with a rich caramel ale. It has a smooth finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Definitely lighter and crisper than I was expecting. Smells like vanilla, plum and raisin. not an overpowering bourbon presence, which is nice. Lots of those same fruity, woody flavors, too. Surprisingly easy to drink. I kinda like it...

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled on tap at the 2nd annual Urban Chestnut Wolpertinger party in a dimple mug. It poured a clear copper colour with tall creamy beige foam, long-lasting with lace and tiny spritzy bubbles. A perfect appearance. Exquisite Big Brown Beer aromas and flavours: fruity, caramelly, toasty, tangy, even some delicious banana ester. Smooth and boozy. Noticeable bourbon, vanilla, oak tannins…overall great application of barrel-aging, far-and-away the best of today’s event. Very tasty. I went back for a grande finale refill, but it was long-gone (unsurprisingly.)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at St. Louis Microfest 2011. Pours a somewhat cloudy copper color with a small off-white head. Notes of oak, red wine, caramel malts, sweet dough, Belgian yeast, brown sugar, plums, and nuts. Medium-bodied, with mellow carbonation and a rich, malty mouthfeel. The regular Big Bison Ale didn’t drive me wild but the barrel is an improvement on it. I hope they do more of these.
