Our version of a Belgian style Dubbel, full-bodied and rich with notes of raisin and plum.

Weird for a dubbel, this brew is overly bitter but full of depth and character. The plum and raisin come through clean and leave a clean feeling on the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.; from weekend notes). Looks solid; a fairly transparent copper with light-beige head that dissipates into lacing. Smells of some caramel malt, toffee, a bit of dark fruit, and Belgian yeast. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. An okay (albeit unadventurous) no-frills example of the style.

Bottle. Poured a pretty amber and a nice head. My wife said it reminded her of Raison d’Etre, and with the dark plum and raisin I can see why. A bit "small" withe everything seeming muted, but I can appreciate that it wasn’t yet another over alcohol’d sweet Dubbel. The toffee and dark fruit combo is a good one.

Dark orange amber with a fluffy three-finger head that recedes to a solid film and leaves very nice lace. Dark fruit aromas with notes of toasted malt, brown sugar, banana and caramel. Dark fruit sweetness tamed by mild alcohol, alongside a hint of apple tartness and Belgian yeast. Medium body, lively carbonation, sticky mouthfeel, and a lingering sweetness cut off by a gentle hop bitterness.

Bottle my brother in law got somehow. Pours dark amber/brown. Some banana flavor, fairly yeasty.

BOTM club selection. US longneck; ruddy, tea-colored brew with a tan head. Nearly clear, perhaps not, kind of hard to tell in through the condensate on my glass. Grassy, lightly tangy, starchy aroma. Very nice flavor - first flush is candi-sweet, but with good bitter balance afterwards. All the notes in the aroma are present in the flavor. Woody, grassy, herbal notes. Mouthy - chalky/pithy body. Not really strongly Belgian in character.

Pours a very nice amber with a decent head that leaves behind some lacing. Good nose - some raisin an prunes with some earthiness. A chewy beer - starts off with taste of of raisins and brown sugar, but then finishes very tart. Liked it all except the finish was so-so. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a clear red-amber hue, with a frothy off white head that seemed to only grow rather than retain itself. Some lace remained as i sampled it. Aroma had a nice mix of some bread malts, a decent fruity aroma and a lot of Belgian yeast. Fruit notes were mostly banana, but there was some raisins. Flavor was sweet at first, almost cloying. There was a nice blend of fruit flavors and some sweetness from the malts. Sweetness was balanced out by some yeast, which gave it a good dough like flavor. Some bittering hops in the finish. Carbonation seemed low, which was a good thing. Although it was easy to drink it did have a good mouth feel.

Draft. A dark brown color with a small tan head. Nose is decidedly hoppy for the style, as is the flavor profile. A bit of Belgian yeast notes, but struck me more like a hoppy brown than a dubbel.

Malty, sweet, a little estery in aroma. Gorgeous amber with a toasted head, beautiful in the glass. Complex toast, grain, and carmel flavors dominate with accents of fruity esters, very little spice. Perfect mouthfeel. Overall could be an amazing bier, it’s simply lacking half the flavor components of a truly fine Abbey Dubbel, spice... it needs more spice. Additionally I think it’s bittered perfectly, but finished a fair amount too sweet for the style, needs to be dryer on the finish. Wonderfully drinkable and certainly worth consuming, particularly for the price point.
