THOUGHTS: Not a bad beer, but a little simple. And a little too clean for the style. Not as sterile as some breweries attempts at more complex styles like Leinenkugel or Michelob, but not quite as good as most craft breweries. It sort of falls into that Sam Adams level or just below that at the Blue Moon level. Disappointed by the lack of yeast. Not a lot of balance right at the get go. A bit cloying. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured, an all to clear for the style, light brown or dark copper. Another way to look at it would be rusty with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was fairly weak. There was light to moderate dark bread and caramel; light hops; light doughy and spicy yeast; grape; raisin; plum; prune; hints of maple syrup and brown sugar; and something sort of like vinegar. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet; light to moderately bitter; lightly acidic and lightly sour with an average duration. There was caramel, dark fruit, prune, raisin, candy sugar, sour plum, spicy yeast, molasses, some metallic hops and maple syrup. The slightly more than medium body was a little syrupy and very sticky on the lips with tingly carbonation and a dry, slightly stringent and ever so slightly metallic finish.

Clear amber color with modest head. Aroma and taste were typical Dubbel, with a bit more fruit than usual. Good American effort, but not a Belgium!

Draft at the brewpub. It poured a dark brown color with a small off-white head. The aroma was of caramel, dried fruit and some minor orange blossoms. The flavor was of roasted malt, dried fruit and some nutmeg.

Nice malty nose with complex raisins and prunes. More of a Stron Ale style then belgium. Sweet finsih but a fav with a 7.4% alc punch...

A rich, malty, full-bodied very complex beer. Uses 5 types of malt and has a deep ruby color. The palate has a malty sweetness with notes of caramel and other complex flavors.

Pours a thin clear orange with no head. The aroma is pretty captivating. Not nearly robust as a dubbel should be. Seems to be too thin all around. Itís drinkable but I wouldnít buy it again.

Sample at KC Beerfest 10-22. Comes a clear amber with a small biege head. Aroma of malt, caramel and some fruit. Taste is malt, dark fruit, chocolate and some spices. Decent.

Slightly hazy ruby-brown, beige frothy foam. Aroma is raisin, lots of toffee, caramel. Taste is similar, sweet candy, toffee, fruity, raisin, prune, some alcohol.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 10/3/11

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, with some caramel, and lots of dark fruit notes
Appearance: The pour is a clear caramel-brown color with a sticky and foamy beige head
Flavor: The taste is also rather sweet, some dark fruit, and heavy malts, with a little spice
Palate: The body is light-medium, with a sticky, almost cloying mouthfeel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: Rating # 1900! This isnít a particularly interesting beer. Itís overly sweet, and it isnít really a quality example of the dubbel style, but it isnít a terrible brew either. It is somewhat drinkable, though a little too sweet, and ultimately underwhelming.

NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 31, 2011
Draft at Plainfield MWBF. Described as a brown ale, which didnít make sense. Pours a reddish brown with a fluffy head. Nose is somewhat phenolic and fruity with some odd bread crust notes that kind of clash. No hops. On taste, itís actually really quite bland and the alcohol becomes distracting. Just a muddled beer that needs to really figure out its yeast situation. Too bad.
