A rich, malty, full-bodied very complex beer. Uses 5 types of malt and has a deep ruby color. The palate has a malty sweetness with notes of caramel and other complex flavors.

Pours a thin clear orange with no head. The aroma is pretty captivating. Not nearly robust as a dubbel should be. Seems to be too thin all around. Itís drinkable but I wouldnít buy it again.

Sample at KC Beerfest 10-22. Comes a clear amber with a small biege head. Aroma of malt, caramel and some fruit. Taste is malt, dark fruit, chocolate and some spices. Decent.

Slightly hazy ruby-brown, beige frothy foam. Aroma is raisin, lots of toffee, caramel. Taste is similar, sweet candy, toffee, fruity, raisin, prune, some alcohol.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 10/3/11

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, with some caramel, and lots of dark fruit notes
Appearance: The pour is a clear caramel-brown color with a sticky and foamy beige head
Flavor: The taste is also rather sweet, some dark fruit, and heavy malts, with a little spice
Palate: The body is light-medium, with a sticky, almost cloying mouthfeel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: Rating # 1900! This isnít a particularly interesting beer. Itís overly sweet, and it isnít really a quality example of the dubbel style, but it isnít a terrible brew either. It is somewhat drinkable, though a little too sweet, and ultimately underwhelming.

Draft at Plainfield MWBF. Described as a brown ale, which didnít make sense. Pours a reddish brown with a fluffy head. Nose is somewhat phenolic and fruity with some odd bread crust notes that kind of clash. No hops. On taste, itís actually really quite bland and the alcohol becomes distracting. Just a muddled beer that needs to really figure out its yeast situation. Too bad.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2014 A hazy ruddy brown beer with a thick off white head. Aroma is spiced and fruity. The flavor is roasty, fig, and lemon with an alcohol finish.

12oz bottle @ Simoneís. Clear light chestnut color with a smaller cream colored head. Lots of caramel and light fruit in the nose. Light chocolate and sweet malt flavors, thin body. Quite simple and drinkable. But then again just plain simple.

I liked a lot. It went well with my bison meatloaf that evening. Big shocker there. Had a couple.

I had on tap at Twisted Spoke into a pint glass...Pours a light brown that is clear with ruby highlights. Light tan head with low retention and lacing...The taste and aroma have the normal qualities of a dubbel but way too sweet. Raisons, dark fruits, tons of candied sugar present mostly. Super sweet plums and sugar dominate and make this uncrushable. The feel is really watery. A typical American attempt at a Belgian classic that falls short in quality and execution.
