3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Liz. Pours dark ruddy copper with a creamy beige head. Aromas of dark fruit and dark roast malt. Med + body. Flavor is raisin/date, with a little treacle and a very little yeast/spice. It all blends together in a very tasty and drinkable Belgian. Touch of chocolate, perhaps, in the finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Binny’s Beverage Depot, Orland Park, Illinois: This poured a clear ruby/brown body with a tall tan head that vanished quickly. It had a yeasty, fruity nose (dark cherries, dates) with some slightly burnt light brown sugar. Slghtly oily mouthfeel. The flavor was much light the nose with an added light touch of alcohol. It’s a nice enough drink, but doesn’t really come across as a Dubbel.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 26, 2011 Draft sample at the brewery. Pours a mostly clear brown color with a small beige head. Aroma of raisin, plum, yeast, caramel, roasted malts, hops, and spices. The flavor is mostly plum, raisin, and yeast, with notes of malt, caramel, hops, and pepper. Medium bodied, and not as cloudy in color or thick in body as a lot of dubbels. Smooth and rich, with a little warming alcohol. Nice take on a dubbel from this startup brewer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Light copper colored body with a very light khaki head. The head is dense and long lasting as are the heads on other Crown Valley beers. The nose is sweet grape flavored bubblegum. There is also a little bit of bread dough, but the fruity notes overwhelm it. The taste is lightly toasted almonds with a little bit blueberry. There taste also has some light bread crust in the finish. Overall, a decent brew that is interesting in that it is barely sweet, but not dry either. A soft, lightly carbonated body makes this easy to drink. Good, but not great.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Copperish red, big beige head. Smells like molasses, caramel, and brown sugar. Very head, overbearing palate. Tastes like boozy rum, molasses, raisin and prune. Not particularly enjoyable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
An aroma of high alcohol complex fruit that is akin to a brandy. It is a copper colored brew with a small but long lasting smooth tan head. The flavor brings lots of dark fruit and sweet caramel with chocolate. Fruit that asserts the most is cherry and raisin. This is really close to being a super beer but it just doesn’t quite make it. Yeast did not seem to be present and it could have added a very cool complexity.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
BOTM club selection. US longneck; ruddy, tea-colored brew with a tan head. Nearly clear, perhaps not, kind of hard to tell in through the condensate on my glass. Grassy, lightly tangy, starchy aroma. Very nice flavor - first flush is candi-sweet, but with good bitter balance afterwards. All the notes in the aroma are present in the flavor. Woody, grassy, herbal notes. Mouthy - chalky/pithy body. Not really strongly Belgian in character.
