Dogbrick (6058) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - NOV 13, 2012
Pours a clear pale amber color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of citrus, herbal hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, sweet malt and a bit of spice. The finish is moderately bitter with a zesty citrus aftertaste. Really tastes like a straight up IPA not a IIPA but it is still decent.

Draft sample at St. Louis Microfest 2011. I think this was the first beer I tried that day. I was excited for the new DIPA in town but this was a bit of a letdown. Pours a mostly clear gold color with a small eggshell white head. The aroma for a DIPA was far too faint, without much hop character at all- sweet caramel malts, some grass, a good deal of citrus, bread, and crackers. Flavor of sweet caramel malts, tangerines, honey, corn flakes, and faint grassy hops in the finish. Medium-bodied, with a sticky, chewy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Seems like there’s a decent beer here but where are the hops?

Sampled at an esbls tasting. From Rob who brought a cool growler from the brewery. Clear and sedate with a big white soapy head. A nice fruity hop aroma with flowers and malt. Mthis is nice with big malt that provides plenty of sweetness. Softer hops when compared to the malt. This was nice and not over stated at all.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear gold pour with a thick white head. Malty nose with grassy and piney hops. Flavor also starts malty with grassy and piney hops coming through quickly and lasting to the finish.

Pleasant, but somewhat muted hoppy aroma, especially for a 2xIPA. Aroma is not overly sweet, and has a sturdy malt undertone. Foggy, maplewood colored brew with a tall, clingy, khaki head. Pretty good bottle, good cap. Sweetish, lightly candied citrus flavor with a zesty hoppiness. Reasonably heavy body, warming citrus pith aftertaste. Good, in the middle of the A2XIPA pack. BOTM club selection -- thanks, Uncle Doug.

Pour is a hazy orange with a large white head. Aroma is a hop with bit of honey malt. Flavor is more of a juicy fruit hop with a minor honey/caramel malt in the backround. Leaves some pineapple flavor on the tounge after the swallow. It’s not bad as an IPA but not a bitter palate destroyer as most impy IPA’s.

From a bottle poured a copper color with a small amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a lingering finish.

Aroma is strong and VERY hoppy, with undertones of dry hay and fresh grapefruit. It pours a hazy golden yellow with a very thick and rather persistent ivory head. Hoppy flavor is more sweet than bitter, citrus-fruity with hints of hay and butterscotch. Butterscotch? First time I’ve gotten a snip of that in an IPA. Firm, smooth texture has a subtle but persistent fizz, leaving a tingly, fruity, hoppy finish. Sling some down your throat!

Bottle shared out of a beer of the month club. I had no idea what to expect, I’d never even heard of this brewery before. I have to say I was ultimately pleased with this beer. The aroma has a wallop of fresh, well rounded hop goodness. It doesn’t pop like some of the best IIPA’s, but it’s more than serviceable. Lots of citrus and a good amount of pine bite make up the aroma. The flavor has a balance of dry citrus notes, herbs and a zesty finish. Gunslinger has a fairly hefty malt profile, interfering slightly with the hop potential. There are mild metallic notes and very faint lactic hints, but overall this is a good tasting beer.

Thanks to anggrec, the Angry Greek, for this one. A strange Double to say the least. The beer pours a clear light amber with very little head and no retention or lacing. The aroma is quite good, best part of the beer, with a lot of bread, candy, and alcohol. The flavor lets me down though. Way too sweet and very little bitterness, just a little bit of burn in the end. The finish is a bit thin as well.
