Tried this beer warm and cool and it stands up. Good complexity and balance in the malt and hops. Awesome beer!

Great aroma, not that hoppy, more grassy and sweeter than I expected from a double ipa; overall a very enjoyable beer.

Hazy, reddish-orange pour with a white head. The aroma has a light fruitiness with floral hops and bready malt. It has a medium body with a slightly creamy texture and lively carbonation. The taste is well balanced. It begins bitter, becomes mildly sweet, and finishes dry.

Pours hazy gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, citrus, grass and pine. Taste is bittersweet with lingering tartness. Medium bodied with sticky finish. Thought this was very good.

Beautifully unfiltered straw color with average head. Palate is rich and thick! Hop mix is unique. Lots of balancing malt sweetness!

Aroma is strong and VERY hoppy, with undertones of dry hay and fresh grapefruit. It pours a hazy golden yellow with a very thick and rather persistent ivory head. Hoppy flavor is more sweet than bitter, citrus-fruity with hints of hay and butterscotch. Butterscotch? First time I’ve gotten a snip of that in an IPA. Firm, smooth texture has a subtle but persistent fizz, leaving a tingly, fruity, hoppy finish. Sling some down your throat!

Bottle shared out of a beer of the month club. I had no idea what to expect, I’d never even heard of this brewery before. I have to say I was ultimately pleased with this beer. The aroma has a wallop of fresh, well rounded hop goodness. It doesn’t pop like some of the best IIPA’s, but it’s more than serviceable. Lots of citrus and a good amount of pine bite make up the aroma. The flavor has a balance of dry citrus notes, herbs and a zesty finish. Gunslinger has a fairly hefty malt profile, interfering slightly with the hop potential. There are mild metallic notes and very faint lactic hints, but overall this is a good tasting beer.

Surprisingly thin-bodied for a double IPA. I don’t feel like there’s quite enough of that malty sweetness I like in my imperial IPA’s to take the edge off of the overwhelming hops. Also, note that the website has this listed as 8.3% ABV while the bottle itself has it at 9%.

Hangover (980) - Atlanta, Alabama, USA - OCT 11, 2011
Purchased at Toco Hills in Atlanta. They had all 4 of these beers there in 6 pack cardboard boxes. Golden/copper pour with a thin white head. Huge citrus hop aroma. Flavor is intially pretty malty with some caramel sweetness but then the hops really hit you. Grapefruit, orange, maybe some pear. Finish is a bit sticky with lingering grapefruit. This one is very nicely balanced and pretty respectable for the style.
