The colour was unexpectedly light but the nose was better. Very sweet up front with citrus hops second. The best part was the creamy/oily texture. As it warms, it gets better.

Thanks to anggrec, the Angry Greek, for this one. A strange Double to say the least. The beer pours a clear light amber with very little head and no retention or lacing. The aroma is quite good, best part of the beer, with a lot of bread, candy, and alcohol. The flavor lets me down though. Way too sweet and very little bitterness, just a little bit of burn in the end. The finish is a bit thin as well.

From bottle to tulip. Aroma is nice but taste is a little too sweet for me. Kind of honey flavor. Not as bitter as I like.

THOUGHTS: Lots of hop flavor without all the bitterness, but it is a double IPA so I sort of missed some of the bitter that should have been there. So maybe not the best DIPA, but it was a very nice, easy drinking beer even for the slightly high ABV. I’d even say it leaned toward being a barley win and DIPA hybrid.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a slightly hazy, light orange with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma had moderate grain, cereal, caramel and candy; moderate orange, tropical fruit, pineapple and other citrusy hops; and hints of brown sugar. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet and moderate to heavily bitter. There was caramel, honey, orange hops, tropical fruit hops, a little spiciness and pineapple. The medium to full body was a little oily and then slightly dry with slightly tingly carbonation and a slightly alcoholic finish.

From a bottle poured a copper color with a small amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a lingering finish.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. From Rob who brought a cool growler from the brewery. Clear and sedate with a big white soapy head. A nice fruity hop aroma with flowers and malt. Mthis is nice with big malt that provides plenty of sweetness. Softer hops when compared to the malt. This was nice and not over stated at all.

Tried this beer warm and cool and it stands up. Good complexity and balance in the malt and hops. Awesome beer!
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hangover (937) - Atlanta, USA - OCT 11, 2011
Purchased at Toco Hills in Atlanta. They had all 4 of these beers there in 6 pack cardboard boxes. Golden/copper pour with a thin white head. Huge citrus hop aroma. Flavor is intially pretty malty with some caramel sweetness but then the hops really hit you. Grapefruit, orange, maybe some pear. Finish is a bit sticky with lingering grapefruit. This one is very nicely balanced and pretty respectable for the style.

Sample at beer fest. Going off notes. Poured a hazy orange color with a tiny white head, that didn’t retain at all. Aroma was mild hops, citrus and pine. Flavor was earthy. Sweeter malts up front, with a decent hops bite. Oily and sticky mouth feel. A well balanced beer. The thing is I like my DIPA to have a lot more hops and this just didn’t fit the bill. Still average to drink though.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 phaleslu (3544) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - MAY 9, 2011
Draft sample at St. Louis Microfest 2011. I think this was the first beer I tried that day. I was excited for the new DIPA in town but this was a bit of a letdown. Pours a mostly clear gold color with a small eggshell white head. The aroma for a DIPA was far too faint, without much hop character at all- sweet caramel malts, some grass, a good deal of citrus, bread, and crackers. Flavor of sweet caramel malts, tangerines, honey, corn flakes, and faint grassy hops in the finish. Medium-bodied, with a sticky, chewy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Seems like there’s a decent beer here but where are the hops?
