Sample at Kurtkeller 001: Pumpkin-tastic 01 on 11/22/2013. Pours a dark brown color with a medium khaki head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, caramel and pumpkin spices in the nose. Full-bodied with flavors of pumpkin pie, smoked malt and hops. The finish is pumpkin spices up front with a lingering caramel malt aftertaste. Enjoyable all around.

Not sure Iíve ever had such a pumpkin and chocolate dominated beer. Itís usually been one or the other. This one rocks both. Great dessert beer with a big sticky sweet flavor. Lots of pumpkin spice on the front end with the chocolate and roasty malt coming through on the back end. Finish is a little bittersweet.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash has a medium-to-thick, creamy, beige head, a very dark brown, opaque appearance (with some reddish brown tint showing at the edges), and minimal lacing left behind. The aroma is bold- Spice City (vanilla & white pepper), some vegetative aroma, and even a chocolate & caramel aspect. Taste is of very rich, sweet coconut, white pepper, celery, Fall spices of all sorts, chocolate, nougat, and toffee, among a lot of other flavors I can not hope to pinpoint. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash finishes rich, sweet, and delicious. Itís mostly wet, too. Overall, this is so wonderful and interesting. Itís delicious, yíall! 3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a deep stouty opaque blackish-brown, medium espresso colored head with okay retention and lacing. Nose is pie spice, roast, malt, hint smoky. Mouth is big and sticky, bittersweet, coffee, brown sugar, cocoa, caramel, and malty up front, then vanilla, nutmeg and pumpkin kicks in. Charlie Brown and Linus could drink this while waiting for the Great Pumpkin -- itís mad tasty and keeps the chill off with the ABV!

This is an over the top pumpkin pie stout. The pumpkin flavor is intense as are spices. There isnít a huge contribution to flavor from the beer compared to the pumpkin and spices but the combination is appealing. Few people are on the fence regarding pumpkin beer but this beer probably wonít appeal to the non-pumpkin crowd at all.

Let it warm, the nose is incredible, little bitter on the finish, but man is it complex and wonderful.
