Draft at iTap-Central West End, served in a pint glass. Pours a clear pinkish gold color with a small off-white head. This is basically just a blast of winter spices with virtually no trace of a base beer. Nutmeg, ginger, allspice, a dash of cinnamon, perhaps some pepper - it smells like a really fresh, strong gingerbread cookie and tastes like those spices without any cookie-like malt sweetness to balance. Still...I like those spices. Light-bodied, with a spicy, thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Seems like sort of a reckless endeavor, but it’s probably the kind of Christmas ale a decent amount of people like.

From a trade courtesy of jands1983. Thanks Doran. Poured amber with an off-white head. Moderate lacing. Nose of caramel malts with nutmeg and cinnamon. Lots of it. Medium plus body with a lively mouth feel. Flavor is earthy, with roasted malts, some nuts, and floral hops and all those spices. The finish is bitter. Good.

Bottle. Appearance is a darker clear amber. Aroma is malty with spice. Big spiced up taste, nutmeg, cinnamon and caramel malt. Pretty decent winter brew.

12oz bottle into Jolly Pumpkin tulip. Foamed up the neck a bit. I really like spiced beers and I even like these spices. However, this is horrid. Way too much spice, its like someone threw a suck full of nutmeg and clove in my face. What makes it worse is the flabby beer behind the spices. I could see a stout or strong ale but its a nondescript mildly hoppy ale. Ugh.

It poured a cloudy red color with a white head. The aroma was of spice and lots of nutmeg and ginger. The taste was also lots of spiciness. Very nice.

Crown Valley Sleighbell Spiced Ale has a very thick, creamy, off-white head, a mostly clear, brilliant orange appearance, with a descending gray cloud, a few bubble streams, and some decent lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of a melange of spices, sweet breadiness, and an overall pleasant pugent smell. Taste is of all those elements, with an underlying hop bitterness to accompany the spiciness. Mouthfeel is medium, and Crown Valley Sleighbell Spiced Ale finishes semi-dry, easy drinking, and not the least bit alcohilic. Overall, this is very good, after it warms, but I think it would actually taste better without the added spices. The bottle recommends serving this beer warm, and I can see how that is something one should follow. RJT

Draft at Kloby’s. Pours clear copper with a smooth creamy off white head. Tastes smooth, sweet, slightly dry, nutty and malty at first, then like gingerbread, light spice, vegetable flavor. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like vegetables, sweet malt, wheat, and nuts.

A deep amber pour with an off-white head. The aroma is spicy with nutmeg, light cinnamon, and earthy hops. It has a full body with somewhat thick texture and lively carbonation. The taste is bitter and slightly roasted with a dry, warm finish.
