DruncanVeasey (5147) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - AUG 21, 2010
Bottle from The Hillsborough Hotel drank back at The Penguin. Alluring tar pour; glossy with a filthy, Baileys-hued swell of foam. Immediately jammy aroma swimming with plum, blackcurrants and cream- then the Neopolitan ice cream, burnt toast and high cocoa kicks in. WHAT a lip-smacking, discreetly pungent stout- as MesandSim point out, with elusive Belgian leanings (yeast?). Some corking jammy fruit dolloped over burnt toast and high cocoa malts here. Bit fizzy, but what the hell. Beer of My Birthday.

CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAY 24, 2010
Bottle thanks to fonefan: Pours an oily opaque with a rich froth of dark beige head. Has a sweet rich toasty wheat and caramel malty nose with some dark chocolate and molasses. Starts with pretty good fullness and effervescent carbonation with some sweet doughy wheaty notes, some raisins, roasty coffee and bittersweet chocolate toward the finish. A pretty unique and enjoyable stout.

A Mes rate. Bottle at the Rake thanks to Mario.
Pitch black pour with a thin tan head that diminishes all too quickly. A really interesting snout. Lots of deep malty goodness, nicely roasted and a hint of vanilla and liquorice. The flavour follows on along pretty similar lines. The wheat sneaks through out of the blackness really well and gives up some pleasant estery notes and more vanilla. Dry and roasty in the finish with some late yeasty character. Something decidedly European about it. Can’t quite put my finger on it. Reminds me a lot of Buffalo stout for instance. Good stuff for certain. Enjoyable and just different enought to be really interesting.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown fast collapsing head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, soy sauce, and some candy sugar. The flavor is sweet roasted with notes of wood, wheat, and some soy sauce, leading to a dry roasted and wheated finish.

Bottle, 6.6%. Fruity aroma, slightly farty, a bit of metal. Almost black colour, red shine. Good stable brown head. The flavour is bready and salty with a strangely roasted note. A bit of soy in the finish. I do not really like this one.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours an opaque black with a dense and creamy light brown head. Hard roasted malt in the nose. Medium body, a little vanilla, rather burned malts and licorice with a vague underlying tartness. Rather malt bitter finish. Well crafted. 190210
