Saison, French for season, was traditionally brewed during the harvest season for Belgian Farm workers. With the harvest season upon us, we bring to the table our Saison, teasing with hints of citrus and spices. Hops and malt are well-balanced and layered with just a touch of sourness.

On Tap at the Bend BP Clear golden with a slight wispy skin and lacing of off-white. Lovely sweet belgian malty aroma. Quite sweet fruity Belgian flavors, and rather slick and heavy. Expected a bit ore light and spritsy. Under attenuated maybe. Very nice flavors, Ripe light fruits and a little cereal grainiess. Soft carbonation.

Before a year or two ago, saison was a style I could pass on, but no more. They’ve come on strong, and the average one being made is as good as the better ones from years past. This is a fantastic lightly tart, fruity (thinking pear and a touch of peach) saision, with a great soft feel, hints of hay and very light pepper. Overpriced at 8.25 per 500, but damn good."

Slightly hazy yellow pour with a really big white head. Pretty well carbonated, despite sitting in my cellar for about a year. Citrus nose - slight vanilla too Nice citrus taste, slightly spicy, very light hop character and bitterness (due to age). Clean and refreshing - would like to try a fresh one!

Bottle (Jun 09, 2014 bottling). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of gum, banana, pepper, grains of paradise. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Not too bad, but rather Americanized...the banana/gum esters threaten to take over the nose, but ultimately the other things still shine through. Still, it’s got more of those gummy characters than I like in a straight saison, I want more hop brightness and peppery phenols front and center, with something rustic or minerally underneath. A bit too sweet as well.

Full, pillowy head on this one, hazy golden body with very active column of carbonation in the center of the glass. Aroma of honey and sweet malt, some sourdough. Taste is tangy, leaves the tongue tingling. Slippery mouth feel, sweet finish.

On tap. Clear golden pour with white head; nice lacing. Dry hay, herbal vegetal, dry spice, light fruit aromas. Light bodied. Nice smooth, dusty bready pils malt flavors with dry herbs and spices, and some light fruitage___very tasty

16.9 oz bottle, bottled on 11/12/13. Pours hazy straw yellow with a monstrous bubbly white head that retains well and laces the glass a little.

The aroma is sweet bready malts, with some earthy yeast and spice (coriander) and some soapy floral notes.

The flavor is sweet bready malts with some earthy fruits and medium bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with sharp carbonation.

Overall, an OK saison. It’s too sweet and soapy / floral for me.

500 ml bottle shipped from Corvallis shop. Almost a gusher. But out of that big foam pour is a lovely lemon and peach saison. Just the right dryness. Citrus throughout. Slight black pepper in back. Really nice.
